I am enjoying this devotional Bible. I have read the devotional JESUS CALLING over and over and recommended it to family and friends. Having parts of it quoted in sections of the Bible adds to the enjoyment of reading THE WORD.

We are a small rural church, Cross Roads Baptist Church, in the mid south of Arkansas, near Smackover. We have used the devotional books authored by Sarah Young, Jesus Calling, Jesus Lives, and Jesus Today, as a hand-out ministry. Often, it seems good to present the Jesus Calling Bible to an individual. There have been many people who have said, "I was so discouraged and this little book, (or the Jesus Calling Bible), has helped so much! It is just like Jesus speaking directly to me." It is being a wonderful ministry! GOD has richly blessed Sarah Young and the Church at Cross Roads. Pastor Chuck Hutcheson

First, the physical properties:
A good quality bible, with decent pages and a very pretty cover.
The edges are gold and my embossed name is also gold. The bible comes with a sturdy ribbon marker as well.
I really enjoy the size of the bible, it is a good medium size and width, enough to spread out on your lap but still easy to haul around.
Best of all, the size of the type (words) is fantastic!! For once, a smaller portable bible with good sized font.
I think that the layout of the notes is quite nice. Instead of tiny footnotes or overly jazzy pages of notes, the way that this bible has been put together is calm, mellow. Perfect for the kind of devotion that you will persue with "Jesus Calling." There are no goofy graphics, just straight forward notes that keep you focused.
I also like the fact that this bible is the NKJV. It is good to see so many more NKJV bibles coming out now.
And now about my opinions regarding the contents of this devotional bible:
I purchased this bible as a companion to the Jesus Calling "364 Day Devotional". I find that this bible compliments the devotional perfectly: I can look up the daily bible verses and I find more in-depth notes near those verses in the bible. They seem to correspond well.
I'm not sure about this lady, Sarah Young, hearing from God. I'm not going to worry about that. When I read her notes I find them to be straight forward and very thought provoking. So far I've not read anything that sends up alarm bells.
Reading the devotions that are written as if Jesus is talking to me can be a bit odd. But I find that this style is actually quite helpful with organizing my thoughts so that I am "listening" more then just reading and thinking. So many times I read devotions and I feel like they are outside of me, and I am a witness on the side lines? So I might even begin to "zone out" and lose the thread? But with this style of "Jesus talking to me" I find that I tune in a lot better and I really do gain a lot from each reading.
The notes in this bible are easy to comprehend, they are clear and straight forward, as I mentioned above. Also I enjoy reading devotions that are not so heavily centered around various women telling me their personal stories. I don't know, I think I just get bored with that after a while. This style is a lot more "private" and "personal" and a lot less "chit chat" and displaced - in other words, me sitting on the side lines while someone else talks about themsevles... not that you can't learn from those kinds of devotions! I just find that the "Jesus Calling" style pulls me in so much more deeply then any other devotion that I have tried to use but ultimately drifted away from.

I HAVE NOT READ THE BESTSELLING BOOK JESUS CALLING: ENJOYING PEACE IN HIS PRESENCE BY SARAH YOUNG WHICH AS I FOUND OUT IS WHY WE HAVE THE JESUS CALLING DEVOTIONAL BIBLE (NKJV) SO I HAVE NO PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS CALLING OR SARA YOUNG.
I UNDERSTAND SHE HAS TAKEN VERSES IN THE BIBLE AND PAIRED THEM UP WITH A DEVOTIONAL FROM HER BOOK. IT WORKS WELL AND THE PAIRING OF THE DEVOTIONAL TO BIBLE VERSE IS GREAT AND INSPIRATIONAL AND CAN HELP YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND THE VERSE A LITTLE BETTER. I GUESS YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE READ THE BOOK BEFOREHAND AS IT STANDS ALONE AS A NICE BIBLE. PEOPLE I FEEL COULD IDENTIFY WITH THE LETTERS AND THEY WERE COMFORTING AND FELT THEY WERE COMING FROM JESUS. HER RESPONSES FELT BIBLICAL.

Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace In His Presence devotional Sarah Young shares with the reader her thoughts upon segments of Scripture which she feels God has spoken to her an has enabled her to share with the reader. These segments are written in first person with her as the speaker talking to the reader directly. The notes throughout the Bible are coupled with several passages through Scripture to read with each. The notes and devotions are well written and inspirational.
This was the first type of devotional I have reviewed and have actually read to a degree, therefore I was not used to reading the format of a person speaking directly to me as the reader and took quite a bit to get used to. I enjoyed reading the devotions as well as the fact that it was coupled with the NKJV translation which is one of my preferred translations of the Bible to read. I would have found it more reasonable if it was not assumed that the reader knows of Sarah Young and who she is. The introduction is of her telling the reader why she has written the pieces, but I did not know who she was to start and had to research further as to who she is. If bought online though it will state briefly that she is a missionary, and provides a mini excerpt about her.

I have looked for months for a new Bible. I first purchased the Jesus Calling Devotion book and bought the Devotional Bible shortly after. I actually use them together. The scriptures, after each daily devotion, direct me to the Devotional Bible. I am extremely inspired and filled with peace each time I read the perfect scriptures and devotions for my situation at the time. I realize those are the features that set this bible apart from the others that I have. I like it so much that I bought my daughter one as a gift.

and though imitation leather (with grain embossing) it is much nicer than the cheap bonded leather you find on so
many Bibles. The size is just right! I love the feel of a chunky Bible that fits just right in the hands. This Bible is
a real delight! And for once, Nelson has corrected a feature
that has always bothered me. This time each book of the Bible starts out on a new page. In many Nelson Bibles, they
will start out with (for example) Mark at the bottom of the page where Matthew ended. This seems to be done to
save paper, but it REALLY makes the Bible look tacky. This
edition looks VERY elegant and impressive. I love the devotional readings and know I will get a great deal of use from this wonderful new Bible.

This is an essential devotional Bible. Sarah Young has taken the messages God gave her by the Holy Spirit in her personal devotional time and as directed by the Holy Spirit has put them in a devotional book and then a Bible for everyone. She has looked up scriptures that correlate with the messages for our benefit. I am so delighted with this Bible. God sent me to a local Bible store one day and showed it to me. I went home to pray more and He guided me to buy it from Christianbook.com
Missionary Sarah Young had been journaling her prayers for years when she began "listening" for what Jesus was saying to her within the words of Scripture. The logos is the written word, the scripture, and the rhema word is the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to us concerning our life situations. Sarah experienced both and we can also via these devotional writtings. In addition, as one meditates on scripture and in addition on these devotional writtings from the Holy Spirit, we are in a position to hear from the Holy Spirit about matters in our own lives.
Sarah Young has a master's degree from Covenant Theological Seminary in Counselling and Biblical studies.
I love the genuine leather edition and the size which is easy to hold and read.

The book, "Jesus Is Calling" by Sarah Young is not appropriate for Christians or unbelievers to write or to read in its "first person" format. It is a false premise and misleading to the undiscerning mind. Putting it with God's word expresses a great lack of wisdom.
Go to scripture to learn what Jesus / God has said. It is direct, and with diligent study, prayer, and the Holy Spirit, the converted mind has all they need. 2 Tim. 3:16-17.
Though it may be well-intentioned, it is a dangerous model to presume on God as to be writing in the "first person" as though these words are from Jesus. This may become popular to the undiscerning, but it is way out of line and lacks wisdom in its conceptualization and promotion.

The "Jesus Calling" devotional Bible is all that I had expected. I have had the "Jesus Calling" daily devotions book for over a year and have enjoyed it so much that I wanted the bible. I am just as pleased with the devotional bible. I use "Our Daily Bread" along with it to read through in one year. I love it and would recommend it to everyone.

The Jesus Calling Devotional Bible offered me a devotional and a Bible rolled into one product that I could have on my e-reader device. I really liked that idea.
This devotional Bible is offered in the New King James Version. I was already familiar with that version so it was easy for me to like that aspect of this Bible.

I was also familiar with Sarah Young's book, God Calling, but I had not read Jesus Calling. In both cases, there has been criticism of Sarah for making a presumption of what God or Jesus would say. I have talked to several Christians that have found these books to be very helpful even though I understand that criticism. For me, I found Sarah's words to be helpful as well. In this Bible, Sarah responds to various prayers that people might pray on various topics such as fear, worry, suffering and other scenarios that Christians throughout the ages have faced. It seemed to me that she stuck with Scripture in her words--with this combination Bible/book, Scripture is right there to compare with. I felt like both the devotional and the Bible verses spoke to me every monring. For me, this made Jesus seem that much closer to me as I spent time in prayer and reading. I find these readings to be encouraging and helpful as I start the day. With that kind of start, I know this Bible helps my days go better. The readings are also connected to other readings on the same topic in case the reader needs further encouragement. I like that aspect of this Bible as well.
