This is fiction with a purpose. And what a purpose it is.
Meet Margaret O'Brien, daughter of wealthy cattle rancher Paddy O'Brien who can only see her many faults.
Fiercely loyal, prickly, and stubborn (like any true redhead), Margaret must overcome many issues that keep her from believing that God can truly love a misfit such as she.
Margaret struggles with things that many young and more mature women today must face and deal with on a daily basis. We, who are naturally hard on ourselves, often forget that we were created without mistakes by a God who loves us ~ just as we are. It's up to us to embrace His will and plan for us to be truly happy.
This is a heartwarming tale. Fraught with danger and excitement, this book will steal your afternoon. And you may find yourself a better person for it.
My thanks to the publisher who provided me with a copy of this book to review in exchange for my honest opinions. These opinions are my own, and they are exactly what I think.

Margaret runs the ranch for her father but he thinks its time for her to be a "lady" and find a husband. He hires a new foreman. Over heard conversation casts doubts on the new foreman Daniel Cutler. Unexplained accidents, bank robberies, murder and other secrets. Can there be anyway for these two to fall in love with all the doubt and secrets? Colleen's faith, her sense of humor and her love of story telling really shines. For someone that didn't read westerns until last year, this was terrific.

Margaret O'Brien was born and raised on a Texas ranch and lives with her father. Her mother was killed in a stampede and her brother was shot by Texas Rangers. Bank robberies are happening in the surrounding towns when her father hires a new foreman without telling her. This upsets Margaret because she has been the boss of the ranch for many years and has increased the value of it, why would her father do this to her. Not only has he hired Daniel Cutler, a stranger, he brings her cousin Lewis back and has changed his will leaving the ranch to Lewis with a huge amount of money to Margaret. He is also demanding that she start dressing and acting more like a lady, Margaret in a dress, she doesn't like that order at all.
Along with all the changes someone is trying to kill her father and snooping around the ranch. Just who is Daniel Cutler and what is he up to? Bank robberies, attacks on her father and he doesn't seem like a true cowboy, dresses to neat and no callouses, although he does seem to know what he's doing when it comes to ranch work. It seems like every time she turns around there he is, she even over hears conversations he's having with people she doesn't know and from what she's hearing she does not trust him. Is Daniel the one trying to kill her father, is it Calvin, one of the hands who seems to be holding a grudge about something, because surely it couldn't be Lewis or Vincente, Vincent is the maids son and was born and raised on the ranch as was Margaret?
I loved the first book in this series and this one was just as good. I really like Colleen's writing and it doesn't take me long to get through her books. Good, clean, a touch of romante and some old fashioned 'old west' action to boot!

Safe in His Arms
Colleen Coble
Book Description: Sometimes it takes a stranger to see you as you really are.
Under Texas Stars, #2 Born and raised on sprawling Texas land, Margaret O’Brien prides herself on her competence as a rancher. But her father believes she’s made for more than just dawn-to-dusk work. He wants her to have the love of a good man, to raise children, to build a life. But Margaret gave up such dreams years ago. She’s convinced no man would have her, that the ranch is her life now. So when Margaret’s father hires Daniel Cutler as a new foreman, she’s frustrated and suspicious. Then an overheard conversation links him with a gang of bank robbers, and she’s downright worried. Daniel swears he’s not involved, but Margaret’s not convinced. She knows the man still has secrets. But would a criminal be so kind and talk so convincingly of his faith? As a series of tragic “accidents” threatens all she holds dear, Margaret must decide what to trust: her own ears, her best judgment . . . or what her heart keeps telling her.
Review: I enjoy the story line very much it was well woven into the Blue Moon Promise book. Margaret was great at the start and the end. I had a little trouble with her ‘I can fix anything’ even a dangerous band of bank robbers. That seemed unrealistic that she had so little sense. I did like the events that occurred after her attempt to help went way off track. Daniel was everything I thought he was in career and character. The ‘bad outlaws’ were well written and with them being mostly in the peripheral was much more dramatic. The side mystery was no surprise but the accomplice was a surprise. I found the action at the end to be intense and draining so real that I wanted to rest between suspense filled events!! Looking forward to book 3??!!!
I would like to thank Net Galley and Thomas Nelson for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.

So, after reading the first book in this series (it isn't necessary to read them in order, although it may help) I knew that I could expect a great book, and I was not disappointed! I enjoyed this one even more then the first in the series because I felt like I could relate to Margaret a lot more then Lucy (the heroine in the previous novel). It was a wonderful book and Colleen Coble is certainly an author that I'd like to read more of.
Highly recommended to all fans of historical fiction who love a little love, a few cowboys and a lot of excitement.

Who Should Margaret Trust?

Raised by her father on a Texas ranch, motherless Margaret O’Brien is tall and strong and doesn’t fit in with the girls in town. So she pours her heart into the ranch she loves, becoming a good rancher. She’s also trying to fill in for her deceased brother and please her father, who just isn’t sure a ranch should be left to a girl. When her father decides it’s time for his daughter to get married and give him grandchildren, he hires Daniel Cutler to be foreman, leaving Margaret feeling betrayed and angry. In spite of his position, Margaret is drawn to Daniel, but then an overheard conversation makes her suspect that Daniel is somehow connected with bank robberies. When a series of accidents threaten the ranch and Margaret’s safety, her heart wants to believe Daniel, but situations seem to indicate he’s not worthy of that trust.
Colleen Coble does her usual good job of interweaving mystery and suspense with romance. Her characters are lovable and believable, and the mystery keeps you guessing along with Margaret.
Safe in His Arms is book 2 of the Under Texas Stars series. It was a fascinating stand-alone book, but exciting enough that I’ll be looking for Book 1 to see what I missed!

Some things never seem to change. Probably from the very beginning women have compared themselves to other women and found themselves lacking. Such is the case with Margaret O’Brian. She has been raised by her father on their rough and tumble ranch so she tends to shun most feminine ways.
One day Margaret’s father Paddy decides it is time that she act more like a woman and find a suitable mate so he can have grandchildren. Without letting Margaret know, Paddy brings in his nephew to inherit the ranch and Daniel Cutler to be the new foreman.
From the beginning Daniel makes it known that he finds Margaret very attractive. But there is something mysterious and possibly even sinister about Daniel. Who is he really and what are his true intentions. The twists and turns that this story takes make for a thrilling tale of discovery. It reminds me of Philippians 4:8, “Whatsoever is true, whatsoever is honorable…think on these things.”
This second installment in the Under Texas Stars series is every bit as good as the first. If you read Blue Moon Promise you will enjoy catching up with Nate and Lucy. If you haven’t read the first book you will easily enjoy Safe in His Arms as a stand-alone story.

Colleen Coble's latest book, Safe In His Arms, is a historical set in Texas. Maggie O'Brien doesn't fit anyone's image of what a woman should be. Yet Daniel Cutler thinks she's beautiful, something she just can't accept --especially when she's convinced he's a bank thief. This historical romance and mystery winds around the deep truth that God loves us unconditionally, a truth that can transform our lives if we let it.
This book has Coble's trade-mark characterization and a setting that can't be removed from the book without removing a key element of the book. I found myself sucked into the pages -- in a good way!

I loved this one as much as the first book in this series. We again meet up with Lucy and Nate Stanton, which I so enjoyed catching up with them and what is going on in their lives.
Margaret thought that she and Nate were going to marry, and has just resigned herself that she will run the ranch for Dad. She has been doing it for several years now, anyway. When he brings a new foreman, Daniel Cutter, into the picture, her nose is completely out of joint.
There is a growing attachment between the two, but Margaret overhears that he is a bank robber. Oh no!! He acts like a Godly man, but? When he finds out that Paddy O'Brien is going to leave the ranch to Margaret's cousin. Daniel tells him that it isn't fair!
As usual in Colleen Coble's books there is a lot of action, the hero or heroine end up with a lot of injuries. There are a lot of trials, and situations, and their is a great reliance on God.
I recommend this as a great Christian Western Romance Adventure, don't miss this one, you won't put it down once you start!

Margaret O'Brien has been raised in Texas on a ranch of all men with the exception of the woman that has worked for the family long before she was born. In fact the woman had been her mother's personal maid before she married her Margaret's father.
Margaret has been in charge of the ranch for some time and loved every minute of the work. She worked just as hard as any of the top ranch hands.
Margaret thinks herself to be awkward looking and plain therefore not likely to ever marry for love. Her love is the ranch and sees herself in the role of a woman rancher even after her father is dead and buried. But her dream of the future is about to change.
Margaret's father had not told Margaret he had other plans for her future and the ranch was not likely to be part of that future. Until they arrive in town and she finds out her father hired a complete stranger to be foreman on the ranch which position she had already considered to be her job. Then her father tells her she is to become a proper woman and will not be working along side the ranch hands any longer. No matter how much head butting she does with her father he stands by his decision.
Daniel Cutler, the new foreman was not what she had expected, he did not look as if he had ever worked with his hand much less knew anything about ranching. This made her very suspicious of his of his motives. She is thinking he might just be scoping out the ranch or the town as part of a gang of thieves. How can Daniel convince Margaret that he is a safe haven for her without revealing that he is a Texas Ranger undercover. He has faith in God to protect Margaret and bring the gang to justice.
Book two of Under Texas Stars series is just as exciting as book one, Blue Moon Promise. Margaret is accepting Nate and Lucy's love for each other. She now cherishes a friendship with them that has almost healed her heart. Each book works as stand alone but it is nice knowing the story about Nate and Lucy.
Margaret reminds me of the ugly duckling that was unable to see it's own beauty.
The author wrote a story full of mystery, suspense, and an unfolding of love, blossoming into a beautiful romance. Colleen also has a pattern in her writings of empowering the woman in her novels with tenacity and courage. Most importantly the reconciliation with God.
I highly recommend this book.

Colleen Coble in her new book "Safe In His Arms" Book Two in the Under Texas Stars series published by Thomas Nelson takes us into the life of Margaret O'Brien.
From the back cover: Sometimes it takes a stranger to see you as you really are.
Born and raised on sprawling Texas land, Margaret O'Brien prides herself on her competence as a rancher. But her father believes she's made for more than just dawn-to-dusk work. He wants her to have the love of a good man, to raise children, to build a life. But Margaret gave up such dreams years ago. She's convinced no man would have her, that the ranch is her life now.
So when Margaret's father hires Daniel Cutler as a new foreman, she's frustrated and suspicious. Then an overheard conversation links him with a gang of bank robbers, and she's downright worried. Daniel swears he's not involved, but Margaret's not convinced. She knows the man still has secrets. But would a criminal be so kind and talk so convincingly of his faith? As a series of tragic "accidents" threatens all she holds dear, Margaret must decide what to trust: her own ears, her best judgment . . . or what her heart keeps telling her.
Margaret O'Brien is a very interesting character. She has been raised on a ranch, knows how to run it from the ground up but is a very insecure individual who has not been taught how to be ladylike so she is made fun of which contributes to her insecurities. All Margaret really wants to do is run her ranch but her father doesn't wish that for her. Now there is a new foreman who seems to be holding a lot of secrets and there is trouble for the ranch. Can these two survive all these problems? Ms. Coble knows how to write characters that come alive off the page. This is a fast-paced read that will keep you guessing as to what is really going on. When you add in the themes of trust, in each other and in God, as well as God has the control this story has the force of a rocket blast-off. I recommend this book highly!

Perfect blend of romance, history, and suspense!

Date:February 3, 2013
Whenever Colleen Coble publishes a new novel, I know I'm in for a treat. I've been looking forward to reading Safe in His Arms since I finished Blue Moon Promise last year, and it was a delightful story!
Margaret was one of the best heroines I've been introduced to this year. She's beautiful inside and out but doesn't realize it. She works hard on her father's ranch to overcome her insecurities and to try to gain her father's approval, never really getting it. When Daniel arrives at the ranch, he immediately recognizes her beauty but Margaret is suspicious of his intentions. As their relationship progresses, I found myself really rooting for them to discover the truth about each other and themselves. And once the romance got going, it was beautiful!
The book was much more suspenseful than I originally expected. Coble kept me guessing for much of the book about Daniel's secrets. And even once I thought I had things figured out, she threw in a few extra surprises and twists. I absolutely loved every minute spent in Larson, Texas with Margaret and Daniel. It was fun to re-connect with characters from Blue Moon Promise as well, and I look forward to another visit (hopefully soon) when the next book in the series releases!!! [4.5 stars]

Safe in His Arms is the second book to Under Texas Stars Series. As an avid reader to western romances, I knew at once that I would enjoy this one. The main character was your tenacious and vibrant red head. She is a strong willed and very different woman. Instead of dresses you'll find her in britches, instead of happily married you'll find her cattle roping. She isn't the woman that men fall for, her beauty is on the inside not necessarily on the outside.
I enjoyed the fact that the main character was not your overly drop dead gorgeous woman. She was your average woman seeking love from her father and her worth in life. She keeps people at arms length, putting fronts to mislead people of her true feelings. She was a dynamic character, with her quirks, her strengths and weaknesses.
The plot was so filled with action. I think a little too much action. I thought the author added way too much action that was inhumanly possible. Just when you thought you could breathe from the suspension another spasm of action would overcome you.
Overall the the plot, characters, and lessons were all very invigorating, and soul edifying. I received an advanced readers copy from Litfuse in exchange for this review.

I've been a huge western romance fan for almost as long as I've been able to truly love reading and whenever I find a great novel that has a strong woman character it makes it all the more enjoyable. In Colleen Coble's latest novel, Safe in His Arms, we are immediately immersed into the typical ranching lifestyle of Margaret O'Brien, the daughter of a Texas cattle rancher, that feels that it's high time for her to find a respectable husband and settle down to raise a family. Only Margaret is not the typical woman most men would find attractive. She wears britches instead of dresses, does the work of most of the men that work her father's ranch, and finds married life boring.
When her father gives her an ultimatum to find a husband or he will leave the ranch to her cousin Lewis, Margaret feels cornered. No matter how hard she tries, it seems that no man will give her more than a passing glance other than her father's new foreman Daniel Cutler. However, it seems that Daniel Cutler is not all he appears to be despite his gentlemen like manners, smooth talking compliments and whenever Margaret looks into his eyes she goes weak in the knees. When Margaret overhears Daniel having a conversation with a man in a darkened alley, she feels Daniel is after the ranch and her father's money. Seems like marriage isn't all it is promised to be, especially with the likes of Daniel Cutler.
When violence finds its way on to the Triple T ranch, Margaret believes that Daniel knows more than he is letting on and sets out to prove her suspicions correct and turn Daniel into the town sheriff. Yet how can a man who quotes scripture and looks at her the way he does really not have a redemptive quality to him after all. Perhaps its up to Margaret to bring Daniel Cutler into the light and reform his dark past.
I received Safe in His Arms by Colleen Coble compliments of Thomas Nelson Publishers and Litfuse Publicity for my honest review. Another captivating novel from Colleen once again. This is the second novel in the Under The Texas Stars series with Blue Moon Promise being the first. You can feel the intensity of Margaret's character in ways she tries to measure up to her father's standards and acceptance and her own self struggle with who she really is inside. One I found myself relating to in my own life and perhaps why I identified with Margaret's character so much. It often times gives the character a low self esteem whenever she measures her self worth but what others think she should be instead of accepting herself and her own strengths that God provided when He created her. It takes her some time to see herself as others do through a series of circumstances she finds herself in the middle of and in time her own self healing begins. Truly an unforgettable story for those that love western romances! I rate this one a 4 out of 5 stars.

My thoughts: Ranch life in the 1800s was not easy for man or woman, married or single. Opening the pages of Safe In the Arms we find Margaret O'Brien who is helping her father run the ranch. Margaret's mother died when Margaret was young and she has not had much female influence in her life. Her life has been that of the rough riding ranch hand - but she is the daughter of the owner of the ranch. She has worked hard to help her father keep the ranch going and building it to enviable status.
Now dad hires a new foreman, Daniel Cutler and Margaret sees him as an intrusive, soft, non-rancher who possibly has a criminal background. The story has twists and turns around future ownership of the ranch when Dad decides he is going to leave the ranch to a male cousin and settle money on Margaret when she marries. His goal is to see her settled in the role of wife and mother. Margaret is headstrong as well as body-strong and she is hurt, befuddled, and very ill at ease with the situation.
Then things really begin to happen and danger lurks.
Author Colleen Coble has written an interesting historical story of the peoples and life on a Texas ranch in the 1800s bringing her characters to life and capturing our interest. Yes, I figured that the romance would happen and predicted its outcome. I did not, however, see the outcome of the danger and intrigue portions. You'll find this an interesting read.
