Baker A Child's Book of Character Building, Book 1

Give your children the basics of godly virtues
Your child will discover and learn the basic building blocks of Christ like character with this imaginative, storybook approach to the teaching of basic virtues. Here is an enjoyable, fresh way for parents to teach children the vital character traits taught in the Bible. Designed especially for young children, A Child's Book of Character Building is unique in its approach.

Each virtue is introduced by a definition and Scripture verse, and then it is reinforced by stories about the virtue in the Bible, at home, at school and at play. Older children can read the book alone, but parents and teacher sill enjoy reading the book to their youngsters and helping them apply it to their lives. Book One includes:

  • Attentiveness
  • Obedience
  • Faith
  • Wisdom
  • Creativity
  • Tenderheartedness
  • Diligence
  • Thankfulness
  • Patience
  • Honesty
  • Contentment
  • Joy
Recommended for ages 3 to 7.

On page 21, in the last paragraph, it reads: "Peter's lack of faith prevented him from walking on the water. Jesus had the faith not only to walk on the water, but also to help Peter."
Jesus walked on water because He is the LORD of the universe, not because He "had faith"! The moment we read this deceit, we closed the book and discarded it.

Good resource for teaching the children. I use the black and white illustrations for colouring pages and that helps the visual and kinaesthetic learners to stay attentive.

I am reading this book to my 7 & 9 year olds, son and daughter. It has short stories and a few questions to ask at the end of each chapter. My husband and I like that the stories are short. I use "teachable moments" during the week to reinforce the character trait we learned about each week.

We've decided to cover one topic each week and read one story each day with the discussion questions on the last day. My older children 2, 4, and 6 are really enjoying the short stories and are retaining the info. Their Sun. School Teacher reported that my children have been discussing what they've learned during the week with the other children in class.

A wonderful book for teaching my children the Biblical character qualities that are largely missing in today's society.

This book is awesome! It is a great tool for me to use as I home school my daughter kindergarten. She enjoys the stories and they are wonderful examples of Christ like character traits that she can grasp.

I just love it. Each character trait is clearly defined and backed with a Bible verse. Four practical applications help my kids understand what each virtue looks like in their lives. How appropriate that the first one is "attentive"! They learn that they need to listen with not just their ears, but their eyes and their hearts also. Don't forget to get the second book too!!

I love this great book. I do not have kids of my own yet, but I use this book to teach 4 and 5 year olds at my church. They love it and look forward to the next story every week.
