Go to the chapter "A Word to the Wives" and read on p. 77 that "a good manager will look at his helper and say, 'She has certain abilities. If I am going to manage my household well, I must see that every last one of those gifts is developed and put to use as fully as possible.' He will not want to quash her personality; rather, he will seek to bring it to the fullest flower."Go farther in the same chapter to the discussion of Proverbs 31. At the bottom of p. 81 read again that "the idea that women should not hold jobs is false. Here is a prominent city elder's wife who does. The key to whether a job is fitting or not lies solely in whether the job helps or hinders her family."

This book is a staple for family counsel. Jay Adams Biblically teaches what God has purposed for the family. What a blessing this has been to many families that I know personally.

Although most of what he says is Biblically founded, he takes a very chauvinistic view of women and the household. If you are content just being a homemaker and agree that women should not have jobs outside the house, or are threatened by a woman earning more money than a man, than perhaps this is the right book for you. As for me, I'm going to use my talents and gifts in the work force as well as the home, because a true woman can handle both. I am pretty sure that only men could completely agree with this book.
