P & R Publishing Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God

On July 8, 1741, Jonathan Edwards preached the most famous sermon ever delivered in the history of America. The response of the congregation was nothing short of amazing. Before Edwards could finish, people were crying out, "What shall I do to be saved?" Though first delivered 250 years ago, Edwards's most memorable sermon is no less needed today. Far more than a depiction of the punishments of hell, it is a call to personal salvation through Christ and spiritual revival in our time.

I read this aloud while me and my wife had a long drive to make (took 1+ hours to read aloud). You often have to stop and ponder what Edwards is saying in regards to certain attributes of God. His treatment of them, I believe, is correct, but he intends to open people's eyes to attributes of God like His perfect justice and righteous wrath that we are not exposed to often, if ever in our day and age.
I fully recommend this, with the warning that you should not take his explanation/vision of hell (fire and brimstone) as described in this sermon as a true vision of hell. That was not the intent of Edwards. The intent was to show the seriousness of our situation apart from the sovereign grace of God by representing it visually and to show the foolishness of living life as if this is not the case.

Jonathan Edwards is one of the greatest minds to grace the history of the Church. This sermon is by far one of the best pieces of Puritan literature available.

This book will awaken you to have compassion on those who are not saved, and will compel you to reach out to the lost (look into the Way of the Master ministry for how to do that). It is an excellent exposition of Scripture that opens up the terrible fate of those who have not repented and trusted entirely in the mercy and payment of Christ for their sins. This sermon will cause you to beg for mercy while it is still available, while thanking God that He is so kind to offer such great a salvation to all of us who deserve eternal punishment for our rebellion against Him.
