Thomas Nelson Same Kind of Different As Me: A Modern-Day Slave, an International Art Dealer, and the Unlikely Woman Who Bound Them Together - eBook

Denver Moore grew up in Louisiana in the 1960's, working on a plantation as a modern-day slave. Ron Hall is an international arts dealer who moves between upscale New York galleries and celebrities. It seems unlikely that these two men would meet under normal circumstances. Until Deborah Hall, Ron's wife meets Denver and sees him through God's eyes of compassion. When Deborah is diagnosed with cancer she charges Ron with the mission of saving Denver. From this request, an extraordinary friendship forms between Denver and Ron, changing them both forever. A remarkable true story of friendship and unconditional love!

This is one of the most heart wrenching, mind, spirit and life altering books I've read in a while. A must read for anyone who thinks they are or aren't doing enough to spread Jesus' message of Love one Another. Had to follow up with the next book - What Difference Do It Make,

A friend loaned this book to me and my husband and I both read it. We enjoyed it so much we decided to buy one for ourselves and one for a relative. Now we are going to buy one as a loaner. Everyone should read this. It is a real eye opener even for those of us who thought we were non-judgemental of others. Service from CBI was great too. Easy to find and purchase, and the price was right.

"Same Kind of Different as Me" is an intelligent, well crafted, and touching real story of the lives of two men from different worlds and their unlikely friendship, brought together by a woman that loved with her entire life. At the end of this book you will have laughed, cried, and been challenged to live a life that matters to God. It also made me realize where we have come as a nation in just 50 years and brought a much needed spotlight into the needs and lifestyle of the homeless. This is not a "good read" or a "should read", but a "must read".

A must read! I borrowed the book from a friend and enjoyed it so much that I wanted my own copy to lend and read again, and one as a gift. The switching back and forth between the two main characters' stories in the beginning was hard to follow at first, but everything fell in to place later on. I'm usually not emotional, but I cried with this one.

Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore
The book is the true story of an unlikely friendship between 2 men from extremely different life experiences. One is a high end international art dealer, the oether a drifter who spent most of his life as a sharecropper in utter slavery. They meet at a homeless shelter, one serving food the other recieving charity. The only thing they have in common at first is the persisitant wife of the art dealer. Through tragedy and love they forge a life long friendship.
I had a very difficult time finishing this book. Although the subject matter interested me, the book did not grab my attention and keep it. I really wanted to enjoy it. I started the book 3 different times and had to really work at finishing it. If I had not said i would review it I would not have continued to read. I know that I am in the minority as far as I can see in the other online reviews.
I am not sure why i found this such a difficult read. Maybe I will try again later.

How can I sum up this story? Bottom line - a woman whose immense faith spilled over into action is used by God to link together a creative, wealthy entrepreneur and an illiterate, broken-down former sharecropper. The story is powerful.
This is a true story about two men and the very different lives they lead. One is a well to do business man and the other is a modern day slave. This book documents their story as their paths cross and their lives influence one another. Each chapter alternates, telling the story from one mans point of view, then the others. It takes an honest look at the way we see others and ourselves. A very engaging account of two totally different types of people who are brought together by circumstances neither would have foreseen or even wanted.
You will be challenged to look at life differently.

Who knew that two people for different walks of life could be used by God so powerfully? This story is about the life of Denver Moore, a modern-day slave and Ron Hall, a very wealthy art dealer. The book is written in such a way that you go between the two men and their lives and how God used one woman, and her desire to help others, to bring these men to becoming sincere friends.
The beginning of the book takes some time to get into and to start understanding where it is leading to. I found it slightly confusing and slow in the beginning. About halfway into the book though, you start to realize that you are reading about the two seperate lives of Ron Hall and Denver Moore and that they are setting the stage for the rest of the story. Don't give up or skip the beginning of the book, because you need to understand who these men and how much they changed.
Reading this book was a very moving experience for me and how just simple acts can change the lives of others. The wife of Ron Hall just followed her desire to help others, with no expectations of anything to result froom it other than to make the lives of the homelless a better place. Ron Hall agreeded to accompany his wife, but never really felt the desire to help others. Who would have ever expected two men to became best of friends.
When I finished the book, I had a new look on helping people and being willing to be used by God. I very much enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to everyone.

I was so inspired by this book! The fact that it is a true account makes it even more incredible.
If we all could just see people the way God does, we would change the world for the better.
It has opened my eyes to what one person can do with just obeying God, when He speaks.

"Same Kind of Different as Me" by Ron Hall and Denver Moore. It was a very intriguing true story, about a modern day slave, or perhaps a sharecropper, who meets up with an upscale couple, and turns his life around.
I was very surprised to hear, that even though slavery was abolished all those years ago, that in essence, there were still slaves in our day and age. Denver was born on a plantation, raised by his grandmother, and worked in the cotton fields, so that he could purchase from the plantation owner's store. How convenient, huh? No matter how much cotton Denver would pick, the plantation owner would always say it was the same amount. Even though Denver never went to school, and never learned how to read, there were some heart warming stories of how he got a brand new bike.
Later on, he caught a ride on a train, and headed west. He then became homeless.
Enter Ron and Debbie Hall. Debbie has dreams of a poor man, who was wise, and by his wisdom, he saved the city. This man is Denver. Ron is an international art dealer, who has done very well in his trade. Debbie, his wife, encourages Ron to join her serving at a local mission. They befriend Denver, and so starts the story.
Each chapter takes turns with Ron and Denver sharing their side of what happened, and it is entertaining.
I enjoyed Denver's bits of wisdom, where, one time, Ron laid his keys on the table, and Denver asks Ron, "Do you own somethin that each one of them keys fits?" Ron said he did. Denver then says, "Are you sure you own them, or does they own you?"
I also found it thought provoking, that Denver would just be happy that "he woke up" that morning, how each of us should be grateful to God, for another day allowed.
Denver gets to preach in a church, and Ron introduces him. Ron wanted to tell a bit of Denver's story, and Denver says, "Just tell em I'm a nobody that's tryin to tell everbody 'bout Somebody that can save anybody." And he later goes on to say that everybody is different, "the same kind of different as me."
At the end of the book, it has questions to get you to think about subjects the book brought out, such as homelessness, prejudice, forgiveness, etc. It also had a conversation with the authors, on where they are now. I really enjoyed the pictures, to be able to put a face to the story.
