Hendrickson Publishers Church Dogmatics, 14 Volumes
Karl Barth's Church Dogmatics is, arguably, the most important theological publication of the 20th Century. Reacting against a prevailing Enlightenment project (German Idealism), Barth sought to articulate an expression of Christian belief that nevertheless took seriously, and yet overcame the critique of Christian doctrine brought forth by 19th Century Protestant Liberalism, and the unsatisfactory re-construal of Christianity by rationalism's close relative, "Natural Theology".
Most believe he succeeded wildly, and in doing so re-established Theology's ability to speak positively and confidently about faith, reason, and God in Jesus Christ.Since its publication in the United States the Dogmatics has remained relatively inaccessible to pastors, students, and even many professors due to its cost. Hendrickson Publishers, with its publication of the 14-volume set of the Church Dogmatics, has overcome this obstacle.
Hendrickson is reproducing the original 14-volume set edited by T.F. Torrance and G.W. Bromiley first published more than forty years ago by T&T Clark. The Hendrickson edition will contain the entire 14-volume set and all its contents, or the entire Church Dogmatics as it was originally published by T&T Clark. This set is ideal for pastors, students, and scholars who have wanted to read Barth, but have been heretofore limited by the cost of such an endeavor.
It is also an excellent opportunity for those who have had little exposure to Barth to become more familiar with a theologian who is increasingly influencing our understanding of the Trinity, Christology, Creation, Ecclesiology, the Christian life, ethics, biblical interpretation, and Christian interaction with culture and politics. In short, it is must reading for all students of theology and Scripture no matter their background or theological perspective.
As Calvin's Institutes was the most influential theological masterpiece of the Reformation, there is little doubt that Barth's Dogmatics(if it has not done so already) will emerge to a similar status in relation to its own cultural and historical context.
Note: As many of you know a 31vol. study edition of Barth's Dogmatics is now available. It is important to note that Hendrickson edition is not the same as the study edition. Moreover, the Hendrickson edition does not include translations of Greek, Latin, and other languages found sporadically throughout the Dogmatics.

Karl Barth is difficult reading and includes many references in Greek and Latin, but if read carefully it is a source of some wonderful insights into God's word. I would not recommend it for those who want a quick reading source, but if you are not daunted by some deep thinking and 14 volumes of it, I think it is worth every penny.

I love Dr. Barth!, And his writings!
He went into the enemies camp and exposed them for their heresy, and irrational thought.
His logic and reason, cannot be measured.
He shows how Liberalism can and does permeate, not only a culture, but, 'belief' as well, if not if NOT rejected and destroyed, immediately.
Sadly, I cannot enjoy this set yet, as they have arrived- severely damaged.

In a world of digital everything, there is no feeling like that of holding a classic book in your hands and reading it. Screens can't match that experience for me, even on the iPad. This is a must have collection for any serious student, pastor or scholar.

I was not only pleasantly surprised, but I have been deeply blessed from what Barth has written in the first book of the series. It was helpful to know a little of Barth's history and the primary audience he was addressing in order to understand him, but wow! a scholar like Bart has a lot to say that is helpful to the saints.

Since I was in college I wanted my own copy of Karl Barth's "Church Dogmatics," and the low price offered by Christian Book Distributors made it possible. Reading it through will take many years, but I have just begun. Of course, as a Lutheran I may not agree with all of what Barth wrote, but he is a theological giant that has to be taken into consideration by any systematic theologian.

Had anticipated flimsy pages and cover, but good hardback and pages better than a lot of bibles. Good enough to keep and hand down to your children.
Some trepidation about delivery time being extensive, but received in a couple of weeks (USA to UK). The extra cost of this postage was significant, but it is still excellent value.

I would advise anyone thinking of getting this set to do it now. the price will no doubt continue to rise. I bought "damaged"set for 97.50. Most CBD damaged books aren't damaged at all. It is usually minor issues that I can't even usually tell if it is damaged or not. I was quite pleased with the binding and Paper on these. It isn't the greatest bindings /paper ever, but it is amounting to about 1 cent a page as well. Well worth it, whether you agree with Barth or not. He is a theologian to be read regardless of what you think of him.

Love, love, love this set of Barth's CD. It is exactly what I was looking for. The simple packaging was definitely a plus. I almost bought the $400+ study edition but am so glad I didn't. This set is affordable and accessible and the page numerations line up perfectly with the majority of scholars who cite th CD. Not always the case with the older T&T versions.

I have been wanting to get Barth's Church Dogmatics for several years now. You've finally made it affordable.
While I wouldn't agree with every point of what I've heard about Barth's theological formulations, including the very little with which I'm familiar - i.e., "The Bible is *not* the Word of God, but it *contains* the Word of God." - I am looking forward to getting into his work for myself so that I can read what he has to say more thoroughly.

I am a theology student, taking a course on Karl Barth. I am extremely happy to have been able to afford to buy this 14 volume set, to use in preparing for class. The only difficulty is that Barth sometimes wrote extensive explanatory passages,which are given in small print and are a little difficult to read. However, given the very reasonable cost of this edition, this is a very minor quibble.

Karl Barth has given us an excellent work of Church Dogmatics and Christian Theology. His work may help me to learn more on God's Word theology. I think this is going to be a very interesting and useful tool to develop more understanding on Doctrine and Bible. I trully recommend this work for those who want to go deeper in getting theological knowledge and serious Bilbe study.

This set of books is amazing value given what you get for the money - ie the complete "Church Dogmatics" by Karl Barth. Have a look on Ebay and compare the prices!
The print seems fine. The paper is a little thin and there's clearly been an attempt to keep costs down and make this a "no frills" product, but that's fine for me.

I had already bought two volumes years ago, the combined price of which was more than this entire 14-volume set right now. Thank you so much for making this great theological masterpiece available to 'poor pastors' such as myself. My friends and I have all bought a set and we are beginning a 5-year long book study group and discussion time (over skype). Call us geeks... whatever, viva Barth!!!
