After spending a week with Liz in Israel I could not wait until the book of Ruth came out and I was not disappointed. As soon as it was available I purchased 25 workbooks and the DVD for a fall Bible study at my church. Everyone enjoyed the study, in fact several ladies were so caught up in the study they finished the book before the study was done. That's a first.
Liz's personality is contagious and her love for God's word is too. Both come through her writings. The ladies loved that Liz taught the Book of Ruth verse by verse and sometimes phrase by phrase. I highly recommend this study to all ladies. The beautiy of it is that it can be done in a group or individually and still receive the full value of the study. The DVDs enhanced our study but did not penalize you if you missed a session.

The Girl's Still Got It by Liz Curtis Higgs is an enlightening read about Ruth. Loved the cover copy-take a walk with Ruth and the God who rocked her world. This would make you read the book just by that. I am a huge fiction reader but love how Liz writes, so I read her non fiction as well.
We travel with Ruth from Moab to Bethlehem and watch how God works in Ruth, Naomi and Boaz's lives. She has made this book of the bible so much more understandable and how God uses this rags-to-riches redemption story and how pertinent this is to my own life.
Love how she goes thru each chapter and thoroughly explains it and then throws a modern day Ruth in real life story in and how they tie together. That was really a neat way to add to the storyline.
After reading this book you can never read the story of Ruth in the bible the same way after reading this book. Liz has included a great study guide in the back of the book which is very helpful. Pleas look in the very back for a priceless rendition of the "Righteous Ruth Rap"--priceless and worth the price of the book just for it.
Thank to Waterbrook Press for my free copy just for my honest opinion.

Are you looking for a new Bible study? Here is one I think you will love.
It is Liz Curtis Higgs' The Girl's Still Got It. This study covers the book of Ruth.
Higgs goes through the book verse by verse, using a narrative form along with commentary to supplement the scripture's message. I have read Ruth before, but never like this. Higgs makes the story come alive by placing the reader in the midst of Ruth's journey with her mother-in-law Naomi.
As I read the book, I experienced the story of Ruth like never before. Each chapter contains wit and humor. Higgs uses her own personal stories along with stories of other women in a section called Ruth in Real Life. In the back of the book, you will find discussion questions and a study guide. This book would serve as an awesome personal Bible study as well as a group study.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review.

The Girl's Still Got It: Take A Walk With Ruth and the God Who Rocked Her World by Liz Curtis Higgs is a unique approach to bible study. The author takes you through the book of Ruth, pulling out verses and shedding light on the culture of the time and meaning of what was happening in the famous Bible story, all with a thoroughly modern, joking, girl-talk style.
I honestly didn't know what this book was supposed to be at first. The way it was described, I thought it was historical fiction. Instead, it takes you through the bible story, but the author interjects her own friendly, casual commentary to make the story seem more "real" for modern women. It's a little like watching a movie with someone whispering in your ear the whole time, telling you what's going on. Personally, I found the modern, conversational, interrupting style of writing distracting, but I happen to prefer a more serious Bible study rather than the "chummy" tone of this one.
This book will help you understand the book of Ruth more deeply if you've only read it superficially or heard the story in Sunday school as a child. The style of writing is a matter of personal preference.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Having enjoyed other books by Liz Curtis Higgs, I was excited to give this book a try.
From the moment I picked the book up I was in aw! Not only does Liz break down the bible verses, explaining was they mean, but she gives such a great look at the culture of that time! I felt like I was reading a history book at times, amazing! The book presents like a bible study, with a study guide in the back. It could be read as a devotional, with wonderfully written chapters. The book offers information on Ruth and Naomi's cultures, traditions, and the what nots of that day.
After the contents list, there's a map, there are also discussion questions in the back as well.
As usual, Liz Curtis Higgs, offers her, often amusing, narrative of through the story. Liz really makes the story come to life!
Though written for women, I would recommend this book for any gender and any age. In fact, my dad loves the story of Ruth and is planning on reading this book. As personal use or as a group study, this book is a mush read!
I received this book free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group, in exchange for an honest review.

The Girl’s Still Got It
By Liz Curtis Higgs
Moabite, Gentile, widow, childless, idol worshiper becomes Israelite, Jewess, mother, God worshiper. Reads like a juicy tabloid headline…. Meet Ruth, great grandmother of King David. The glorious story of her redemption is written in just 4 short chapters of the Bible, but has remained for ages to foretell our salvation through Jesus.
I loved getting to know the characters in the book of Ruth and I gained a better understanding of all the “goings ons” in this short Old Testament. The writing style mixes fact with what-probably-happened-in-the-meantime fiction. This book made the Biblical account much more real to me. I can now see the emotion and the subtleties of Ruth’s story that before I had always missed. I’m so glad the author included multiple Biblical translations of phrases throughout the book to help me gain a greater understanding of the text. Liz Curtis Higgs also includes the stories of modern day ladies who mirror the characters in the book of Ruth. I’ll admit that I’m definitely challenged to better love my mother-in-law by Ruth’s shining example!!! This would be a great book for several friends to read, study, and discuss. It has both a “light” version and an “in depth” version of study questions at the back to fit the study needs of one or many. I give this book an A – great read alone or with friends.
PS – New favorite phrase: “Kinsman-Redeemer.” Just gives me the tingles. Read the book to find out more!!
I was given a free eBook version of this book by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

This is a great refreshing new look at the wonderful book of Ruth. I really enjoyed how the story and scripture was woven throughout the entire book. I didn't even realize I was basically doing a Bible study until the end and there was a study guide! The book is very easy to read and has a great flow that really allows you to understand what's really going on in the book of Ruth. I also appreciated the real life quotations at the end of each chapter that put into perspective how real life relates to what we can learn from Ruth and Naomi and Boaz. This is a great way to study the book of Ruth. I really recommend it.
I received this free from blogging for books in exchange for my review.

Still hot off the presses, Liz Curtis Higgs’ “The Girl’s Still Got It: Take a Walk with Ruth and the God Who Rocked Her World,” is the newest book from the author of several hilariously insightful studies on the ‘bad girls of the Bible.’ This particular work takes readers back in time for an eyewitness view of the events happening in the time of Ruth and allows us to delve into the characters of Orpah, Ruth, Naomi, Boaz alongside the townspeople of Bethlehem and the potential kinsmen redeemer not mentioned by name. As with Higgs’ other works, “The Girl’s Still Got It” is overflowing with historical tidbits, Jewish culture and customs, Hebrew word study, personal experience, and lots of laughter.
This book would be absolutely perfect for a group meeting (not just one for women either!) with the included discussion questions and makes a great Bible Study tool on the book of Ruth as it also has a fabulous study guide included. I read the entire book through in one evening so it’s quite the past-paced, ‘novel’ type read. I think the part I enjoyed the most, and, when I read it through again, will complete was the introspective study guide questions which tie Ruth to the New Testament (several of which would make great sermons or lessons with a bit of research!). A definite recommend read for any and everyone!
For just a sample of the many treasures inside, here are a couple of my favorite lines: “When God is on the move, He invariably leaves footprints” (pg 100) and “Maybe that’s the simplest definition of faith: sitting tight. Waiting without fretting. Trusting without second-guessing. Believing without demanding proof” (pg 140). Great stuff!

I have always loved the book of Ruth and although I have read it numerous times, I have never really contemplated each verse in an in-depth way. This book sure did and boy was it wonderful!!
I love that it took us four chapters of Higgs' book to cover just the first chapter of the book of Ruth. A very informational book about the customs of that day and time as we journey along with Ruth and Naomi.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a great factual book!
