Review 1 for Walking with Moses, Talking with God: Lessons Learned from an Unlikely Leader
While it may be an ambitious task to explore the 120 years of life that Moses led on this earth in a 6 week Bible Study, Cinda King does an amazing job! This study is a good balance of looking at the story in depth and finding the applications that are relevant to your life today. I loved Cinda’s explanation “In Judaism, he is remembered as the greatest prophet, leader and teacher the world has ever known; yet based on natural ability and personal confidence, he was certainly an unlikely leader.” She goes on to explore the doubts, insecurities and frustrations Moses had about the many different assignments given to him by God.
Moses is an extremely important person in the Bible and Cinda notes that “he is mentioned in no less than 31 books of the Bible”. Yet, I have found few Bible Studies that explore the subject of Moses in such a personal and relevant way to our lives today. The application questions in the workbook allow you to think through Moses’ experience and his relationship with God while you examine yours. They would be very interesting and insightful to explore in a small group study. And, Cinda gives the study a personal touch by sharing relevant stories from her life to help illustrate many of the key points.
Just some of the many themes of the Moses story include – God’s planned destiny for your life, God’s protection, God’s redemption, the importance of obedience to God, and God’s blessings and provisions for His people.
While I personally loved Cinda’s exploration of Moses’ leadership vs. our roles as church leaders today, I am not sure that this would be as broadly relevant to ladies participating in a Bible Study who have not yet experienced a leadership role.
Overall, the study is well written and keeps the reader interested, engaged and eager to continue with the study. Throughout this workbook, you will be asked to look up several supplemental scriptures and need to read many sections of Exodus, Numbers and Deuteronomy but it is organized in a way that makes it easy to explore certain themes. This is a really interesting and enjoyable read (not dry or technical at all!). I would strongly recommend this book and am eager to explore it in a Women’s Bible Study with others. I am hoping that Cinda continues to write more Bible Studies.
