Customer Reviews for Zeezok Publishing, LLC The Shining Sword

Zeezok Publishing, LLC The Shining Sword

The Shining Sword is sure to help children grasp the concept of putting on the whole armor of God. Beautifully written, the story pulls the reader in from the first chapter, and the updated pen and ink illustrations only add to the narrative. Children and adults will be able to readily relate to the experiences of Lanus and the other soldiers of the King. This allegorical presentation of believers' lives as knights or soldiers of Christ will captivate anyone's imagination.

In some respects, The Shining Sword will remind older readers of the story of Pilgrim's Progress, but the focus in The Shining Sword is on using each of the pieces of the armor of God wisely and correctly. In particular, readers learn along with new knight Lanus how to wield the Word of God (the sword) in various situations. While intended for readers from ages 8 to 13, it is a read-aloud story that will capture the attention and interest of any reader or listener. It is a tale that presents tremendous discussion opportunities on what it means to be a knight of the King in the spiritual warfare that all believers face daily.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the writing. The story itself is exciting, biblically sound, and inspiring. I read this aloud to my 12 year old son several months ago, and he has re-read it several times on his own. I plan to read it again to myself on an upcoming vacation. As other reviewers have stated, it's a book which can be appreciated by those older than the recommended 8-13. There is much food for thought within.

An extremely well-written and exciting children's book, this allegorical story will grasp the attention of all readers, ages 8-100! The deep spiritual truths covered in this adventure story will enlighten children and adults to their own daily struggle against sin and temptation while providing practical Biblical helps. A modern day "Pilgrim's Progress."

I read this book aloud to my 8 and 5 year old sons. The adventure kept their attention and the link to real-life spiritual battles was not lost on them. The way the author's words pointed even my heart to the Truth of God's Word was, for me, a life-impacting journey. The description of this book says it is for 8 to 13 year olds, but I disagree. I think it is worthy of being read aloud to as young as 5 and for any age older than 13 this book can be used by God to engage the heart of any reader.

I read this book aloud to my boys, ages 8 and 6. They were very involved with the plot and begged for more each night. As a read-alone it would be suitable for a third-fourth grade level and above.
