In a previous generation such a book would not have been available to the average person. This is a beautiful volume, worthy of the lectern. At 8-1/2" x 11-1/2" x 3" thick this Bible is easier read at a table or desk rather than being held in the hands. The binding of such large books also lasts longer when the book is laid flat instead of being held like a novel. With the English and Latin texts side by side this Bible is an obvious point of entry for someone who is determined to learn Latin. I expect this Bible to last for generations as I intend to take care of it and not subject the binding to undue stresses or abuse. There is a dignity to this Bible that befits the Word of God, and recalls the venerable old Family Bibles of the 19th and early 20th centuries. I purchased this Bible to further my study of Latin, but have decided to only use it while at home. I do not wish to have it banged around and damaged in a book bag or backpack. I would recommend this Bible to anyone who can read Latin or is willing to learn Latin, and who is willing to sit at a desk in order to read it.

I use the NAB for everyday mass readings, as that is the translation the church uses. I wanted this particular bible because it also contains the Latin, and the English is more lyrical and beautiful. While the NAB is about the most accurate translation available from the original languages, and is great for study or following the mass, the Douay-Rheims and its language is very suitable for meditation and Lectio Divina. The English translation also closely follows the Latin. The one complaint is the paper is a little thin, and when I opened it upon arrival to one of my favorite psalms, there were two small holes at the top of the page. That didin't thrill me a whole lot, but I overlooked it and didn't mention it to the company, as I was pleased with the book itself.

My favorite version of the Bible !!! Im working on my Latin. So having both versions side by side is a great tool for learning. And the historical significance of The Latin Vulgate adds the greatness of this Bible. i love the leather cover. seems very strong and sturdy. The way its laid out and the size of the print. I highly recommend this version of the Bible. Especially the historical aspect of it. I love history and especially Christian history. The early Church fathers and saints make for very interesting and inspiring read !!! Pax and May Iesus bless you and your family.

This Bible surpassed my expectations in its beauty, and the Latin-English feature is so easy to read and understand. My Latin will sure improve with this! It will be a family heirloom for years to come. Thank you!

This is a beautifully made book. It is a large book 9 x 11 inches and heavy, best suited for use on a desk or book stand. If you are not used to the Douay-Rheims version some renderings can be a challenge (Booz=Boaz; Noemi=Naomi; Bethsabee=Bathsheba; sicles=shekels &c.). It is very useful having the vulgate side by side with the English in two columns. Books like this are going the way of buggy whips. Get one while you can.
