I ordered this book because I needed something to help me reduce the prep time for our homeschool. Our homeschool is now multi-level, with 2 preschoolers and a first grader. At this stage there's a lot of "hand-holding" still happening which takes up a lot of time. The good part about this stage is that the material is still pretty basic. Still, preparing for our lessons takes up a lot of time using traditional textbook/workbook materials.
The book is proving to be valuable. I started with a simple unit study which we completed happily. I haven't finished reading the entire book yet but I can already apply what I learned from it.
The book is an excellent guide to what unit studies are, how to make them and references that can help you create unit studies without having to buy too many materials. I like that it taps into public libraries and other unexpected sources that are free or costs very little to access. It also provides encouragement and support in bite-sizes so it doesn't distract from the main content.
Finally, even if written for a US audience, I gathered a lot of practical and useful advice that transfers well into our local setting.
I highly recommend this book to homeschoolers or teachers wishing to study a specific topic or interest and parent-teachers looking for a way to reduce prep time while involving everyone in the family at the same time.

Review 2 for Unit Studies Made Easy

I purchased this book after learning about it through a homeschool forum and reading several reviews online.I am an elementary teacher who has chosen to educate my children at home. I always loved planning unit studies in my classroom when I taught and now I am happy to be able to plan them to use with my children. This book was so helpful to me because I saw how unit studies are done within homeschooling. The book will teach you how to put together your own unit study. I found it helpful to read through the unit studies she has included in the book since some are based on history, geography, science, literature and more. It has a wealth of ideas in it. The author has also done a great job updating the books and including websites for resources. If you are looking to develop your own unit studies with your children but are lacking confidence (or don't know where to begin) you'll want to read this book! :o)

Review 3 for Unit Studies Made Easy

Being as we are well on our way to a large family, I was looking for a curriculum that would allow me to be flexible and use the interest of my children. I found that this was the only curriculum that I was going to have to buy for the all subjects excluding math and phonics. I highly recommend unit studies made easy. After reading the book I really felt confident about unit studies for our family. We also purchased her phonics program Reading Made Easy which keeps the feel of the love of learning with family. After each lesson you read a good book and my kids love it. So Unit Studies Made Easy, Reading Made Easy, Miquon and Singapore and you got the whole school curriculum K-12 for all around $100. That is the gift that keeps on giving.
This is a great book, and it is helping me to revolutionize the way we home school. I am so tired of draining the fun of learning from my young kids with textbooks. I'm hoping to spend this summer revamping things (with the Lord's help) so that hopefully we will have a great school year next year. This is a compilation of 4 books: How to Create Your Own Unit Study, The Unit Study Idea Book, For the Love of Reading, and Success with Unit Studies. There are also some extras at the beginning and end, as well as descriptions of the author's other books. There is a chapter at the beginning called "Biblical Parenting or Schooling at Home?" which is not to be missed.
