Alliance Atlantis The Inheritance
At the lush Evenswood estate in Concord, Massachusetts, Edith Adelon (Cari Shayne), a beautiful orphan, lives as the paid companion to the daughter of the wealthy Hamilton family, although they regard her as one of their own. As the Hamiltons await a trio of visitors for the annual Greens Cup horse race, Beatrice Hamilton (Meredith Baxter) asks for Edith's help in finding a suitable husband for a cousin, Ida Glenshaw (Brigid Walsh Brannagh), with one of two visiting elegible bachelors. But when it comes clear that both the young men have affection for Edith and not Ida, jealousy soon develops, leading to malicious conniving and brutal backstabbing. Despite the growing love between Edith and one of the young suitors, because of their conflicting social classes, the couple is reminded time and again that their love can never be. Approx. 93 minutes.

This has got to be one of my favorite movies of all! It isn't just a clean romance, but it also has underlying themes that deal with integrity, virtue, and forgiveness. The actors do a wonderful job. Anyone who likes romance will watch this over and over.

I have not read Alcott's book, but I definitely enjoyed seeing the movie. The underlying themes of the value of good character, the influence of one person upon the character development of another, and the promotion of and encouragement of a skilled woman in the face of opposition in a man's world are themes that still have application today. It could be a good source of discussion about values and character between a teen girl and her parents.

Based on a novel by Louisa May Alcott, "The Inheritance" has long been a favorite move. I purchased it years ago as a VHS, so was happy to find it on christianbook.com on DVD. Anyone who loved "Little Women" or "Little Men" will want to get a copy of this DVD. The acting is excellent and the cast well-chosen. There are some twists and turns in the story that will keep you watching and wondering.

The movie is a little bit choppy and the acting is a little off. Otherwise, it is very entertaining and was enjoyed by my children 13, 9 and 8 as well as myself and my husband. There is nothing inappropriate in the movie ( I think one or two kissing shots which my younger two covered their eyes for) lol Overall I think it is a pretty good movie.

A sweet story turned sour, because the name of our God was used two times as a cuss word. Also, the women's dresses were not modest. It went in the trash with many other movies we have purchased.
