This was a gift for my daughter, but as I skipped through the book, I was very impressed with the content.
I would like a copy myself, and I have been married for 33 years!

Buy this book--and the workbook too! My husband and I worked through both before our wedding, and two years later I think that it put us on a good path. Very simple, easy to understand language that is neither "psycho-speak" nor "church-talk" that really helps couples look forward to their marriage, not just their wedding.

Very helpful in assisting with pre-marital counseling with young couples. Informative and interactive, a very good reference.

I wanted to read a book with my husband-to-be, and this was the one. I really learned a lot of things, and know he will benefit from reading it as well. It'll be one to keep on the shelves, and read every few years. It was SO good!! I've recommended it to several people already, and would definitely use it as an engagement gift.

Having counseled many couples in 25 years of pastoral ministry, I have read several books on marital, interpersonal relationships. The authors present sound principles that are easy for people to understand and to apply. I had a few older favorites I would recommend to couples until reading this book -- now I have a new favorite to share instead! One of the unique, most admirable qualities of this work is that it is very helpful to persons regardless of their marital status. A single individual will find it helpful for insight during dating. A person who is engaged will find it helpful in identifying issues that are sure to arise within marriage. A newlywed will find it helpful in responding to the major adjustments of sharing his/her life with another person. A person who has been married for several years will find it helpful in understanding how a marriage deepens and grows over the course of time.I strongly recommend this book to anyone wanting to enhance an upcoming marriage or an existing one. There are accompanying workbooks, one for men and one for women, that are also very helpful. This book is definitely one to own!

My finance and I attended a pre-marital class that used this book and the gender specific workbooks. We both think that we gained significantly from reading this book and learned valuable skills that will help us cultivate a prosperous marriage.

Great psychology, minimal theology. A GREAT book about having honest expectations with marriage, but pretty poor at preparing to have a Christ-centered marriage. Aside from a few Bible verses this is almost a secular perspective on communication and marriage.Extremely enjoyable, but leaves one a bit desirous of more Jesus in the equation.
