A tremendous read. Dr. Adams speaks from years of experience and study of God's Word. This is a tremendous work. I do not "buy into" his positional stand on Reformed Theology; however, very little of that comes forth in this Book.

This book is a classic in Biblical Counseling. Despite coming out decades ago, the issues it deals with are just as relevant today as then. Dr. Adams knows what he's talking about from both the counseling side and Biblical side. He knows his Word and how to apply it to hurting, sinful people!
One of the great travesties in the modern church is the myth of "Christian Psychology." Jay Adams makes an excellent argument (both in this book and many others) that the two simply don't go together. Although there can be "organic" problems, the vast majority of what is considered psychological "disease" can be taken care of by the Word of God being lovingly applied through the power of the Holy Spirit.
One caveat with this book, however, is that Adams occasionally brings in his very staunch reformed theology. This is particularly troubling when he talks about demonic possession, but don't let his few theological quirks keep you from reading an essential masterpiece on caring for souls.

I'm not sure why someone has to "beware of end time events" to quote the other review. This book is a must for any pastor who truly desire to counsel the members of his flock in a biblical way. Adams provides amazing insights and gives many practical ways to implement them into a church.
