Enjoyed this book so much I ordered the next one with Hilde titled BLOWN AWAY. I'm an author-reader so Nancy Mehl is now on my list. This book was a fun read for a few hours of relaxation.

The funeral home Hilde Higgins works for as a hairdresser is not in the habit of switching or loosing bodies. But when that's exactly what happens, Hilde promptly confronts the funeral home director and is accused of stealing the personal property of the deceased. Desperate to save her reputation and solve the mystery of the missing Mabel, she embarks on a journey to find the truth. Will an old beau be able to help her save her career? Or will the doer slip through the cracks?
This book was enjoyable from the very first page. Hilde has an unfortunate name, and the worst of luck when it comes to life - and love. Between her struggle with her interest in Adam, the "crazy" old man she tries to befriend, the strange happenings at the boardinghouse where she lives, and the chain of events that plague the funeral home, Hilde has her work cut out for her. It was a captivating mystery that kept me turning pages despite the predictable outcome.

I read this delightful book in one evening and loved it! It was just different enough to keep my interest throughout. I rarely laugh out loud while I read, but I did with this book (as did my daughter-in-law when I passed it on to her). Great read, and I highly receommend it if you need some joy in your life.

Liked reading the developement and strenghts of the main charactor as the story evolved. Only, negative is the story ended rather abruptly; another 25 page could have done a lot to improve the ending.

Missing Mabel by Nancy Mehl is a completely delightful read.
When Hilde Higgins, hairdresser to the recently departed is called in to tidy the tresses of 87 year old Mabel Winnemaker, she is shocked to her roots to discover the body has been switched. Before long, fingers are being pointed at Hilde accusing her of inventing this conspiracy to cover her own pilfering of Mabel's diamond ring. Hilde knows she is innocent, but the evidence is found in her handbag. Who would set her up, and why? Although Hilde comes up with several suspects, none of them seem likely. Hilde's life seems to be in tangles. Can she straighten things out before her life is trimmed short.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters are amusing and the story is captivating. It moves along at a brisk pace and all the questions are tied up by the end. It is the perfect book for when you want a good relaxing read that doesn't require too much thinking on your part. I give this book a solid 4 stars. Although it's not a blockbuster, it does the job it was called to do quite well.

I wasn't sure how this book would be after reading the summary, however I was pleasantly surprised. The main character has a very quircky (sp?) personality which I understood completely. I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to reading the next book in this series.

I really like Missing Mabel. It has to do with a character who is a hairdresser for people who have passed away. I wasn't sure I would like the whole story line, but I have to admit it did keep me entertained. It had a couple of plot twists. This is the 2nd book I've read in this series. I can't wait for the next one!

This is the first book by Nancy Mehl I have read and now I want to read more of her books. I really liked the large print of the book, easy on the eyes. It is the kind of mystery I like to read with a comical character that makes you laugh at times and cry at others. And an education on "who does do our last harirdo" and how careful they are to make it look as a person would appreciate looking in the end to friends and family. It has a very good "who done it and what's going on here" story line.
