I ordered this book because I had had a lovely time visiting Monterey years ago, and never forgot it. However, I didn't see parts of the area that this book portrays--for example, migrant workers' life, the theme for the first story. This story, one of the most beautiful I have read in this series, is worth the price of the book!

I thought that these three stories held my interest as I became emotionally attached to the characters and their situations. Quite well developed personalities for the space allowed in a novella. Also, it was interesting to learn about the setting of the stories--a little trip to a specific locale in California. I dug out my atlas to see where these actual places are situated.

Was in the middle of reading this book, Garlic heiress part, when I was booking a trip with my husband to Calif. this past May 2010. Was looking for interesting places on California map, when I discovered there was such a place Gilroy, garlic capital of the world. Well, this just made my trip more fun. Never imagine my book and trip would come together. Finishing it up now and love every story in the book. Love it.
