Review 1 for Heart of the Problem: How to Stop Coping & Find the Cure for Your Struggles
Date:September 29, 2009
I'm 63, and this is the best book I've read other than the Bible. A counselor who's traveled world-wide, Henry's been through and heard a lot of very hard things and found God met him in them without fail. Henry and Kerry have written a simple but deep book, filled with scripture verses suitable for meditation and memorization. They take us on a journey through the simple traps and anguishing tragedies that lead us to sin and show how to cooperate with God in dealing with them and find freedom, using many first-hand stories. Henry relates his encounter with God at 26 years of age, telling how he realized obeying God's word was key to successful living, then says: "To obey biblical guidelines as I lived out my life, I needed them in my head. For me, this clearly meant Bible memorization. Even now, fifty years later, I still consider Bible memorization and application is the single most important aid in my Christian life and counseling." Near the end of the book Henry says: "God loves us and has provided a simple way to live an abundant and peaceful life. This is done by confessing our sins quickly and asking the Holy Spirit to control our lives. If you miss the simplicity of this truth, reading this book has been a wast of your time." The first memory verse is 2 Cor 11:3 - But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

This book eliminates the excuses and explanations we give for allowing the fruit of evil (sin) to remain in our life. It cuts through to the "heart of the problem."
