Customer Reviews for Barbour Publishing Foxe's Christian Martyrs

Barbour Publishing Foxe's Christian Martyrs

Foxe's Book of Martyrs is a classic of courage and faith. This volume chronicles the stories of men and women who faced torture and martyrdom rather than deny their faith in God. Beginning with Jesus Christ, Foxe traces the roots of religious persecution through the sixteenth century. He examines the heroic lives of great men and women such as John Hus, John Wycliffe, William Tyndale, Anne Askew, Lady Jane Grey, and Martin Luther. This updated and abridged edition makes this Christian classic accessible to the modern reader.

Christians should always be prepared for persecution, since Jesus promised that His faithful followers would be persecuted. What better way to know what you might face than by studying the past?

I believe this is an important book for all christians to have in their homes. It puts my faith to the test, and definately is great reading for teens, even younger, with some parental sensitivity and editing.I find it helps put a proper perspective when also reading modern day christian martyr stories.

Every believer should read & digest this. It helps us understand how precious & costly it has been for us to be able to have free access to God's Word & to worship freely.
