While China's Communist rulers hope to reap the social and economic benefits of Christianity without losing power, David Aikman truly believes that the Chinese dragon might eventually be tamed by the Christian Lamb. Few books change the way a reader views the world. Jesus in Beijing is one of those books.

China may be the next great instrument God uses to spread the gospel because of that nation's world-wide influence and impact. Therefore, in order to pray for Chinese believers, especially those in commercial and governmental positions of responsibility, we need more information about the state of the church in China. David Aikman's work provides that information. In addition it traces the story of how Christianity reached China, a not-too-pleasant story. Most encouraging and challenging to me, however, was his description of young Chinese believers carrying the good news to villages around them. I began to understand to whom the Lord will ultimately say "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." These faithful followers, in fact, are committed to finishing the task of spreading the gospel around the whole world. May God use them to inspire those of us in the West!
