This book shows you how to teach your young kids how to read, write and add. It replaces the hundreds or even thousands of dollars some spend on curriculum for young children. I pulled my daughter and son out of public school half way through her 1st grade year (and my son in preschool), and this really put into light some of the difficulties that she was having. I have referred back to this book several times and will continue to do so. This is a must have for everyones home library.

An excellent book, worth it's weight in gold to the new homeschool parent of elementary grades. Down to earth advice on simple methods of teaching reading, writing and math. Mrs B is in touch with what to expect at each age. She encourages the parent to use what is at hand, in the home. Using this as a guide, you could save money and not buy curriculum.

This is the best foundational info for adults teaching kids language & math/arithmetic - bar none!

Ruth Beechick explains a child's development in these areas that will clarify and transform your approach to teaching. This info is incredibly helpful if you're looking at how to target teach kids so they "get it", instead of group "one size fits all" teaching that targets only the ones who learn that way. Of all the books I read during my 15 years of Homeschooling, this is really one of the best. So much so, that I'm buying it again as I begin Homeschooling our 10 year old grandson who has not been served by the government public school system's approaches or resources. They promised the moon and didn't deliver. Time to reorder this gem and get to it!

Ruth Beechick's books are fun and informative to read. She is full of practical and simplified advice. She is highly educated and experienced in the teaching field and I value her opinions and methods. If you're considering homeschooling your young ones or you don't know where to begin or what curriculum to buy, read this first!
