The Apocrypha the Lutheran edition with notes is awesome. It dose as it clams and really ties the Old and New Testaments together. The forward and notes at the front of the book are worth having for study and general knowledge by itself. It shines new light of the cultural lives of the time in the New Testament. It answers the questions of how Jerusalem and the surrounding area came under roman control. The Preface also tells how these books are not considered scripture but considered good reading by the Christian Church Fathers and explains how, when, and why they were removed from the protestant bible we know today.
The researchers who put this book together took great care in pointing out what makes each book non scriptural but also points out where the teachings relate. The foot notes and cross-references to the bible are immense and aid greatly to learning and understanding the writings. The Preface to each book is very complete, thorough, and interesting.
If you’re into Christian history, this book will help satisfy that hunger. Besides the history the stories contained in the Apocrypha and their lessons learned are good for applying to a Godly life. Just as any writing not of the word it all must be tested agents the True Word of God in the Holy Scriptures
