If CBD would allow it, I would give The Lively Art of Writing ten stars! Like I said in an earlier review, I didn't expect what I got when I bought this book. A few months ago [now several years] I was looking for a book that would help me improve my writing. I found this little gem among the myriads of books written on the subject and, I kid you not, I haven't been able to put it down! I know that sounds strange. That's the kind of statement you'd expect concerning a great novel, but not about a "how-to" book on writing. But it's true!
I wrote my earlier review in 2007. Today is April 30, 2014, and I began reading The Lively Art of Writing again for the second time. All I can say is that it is still the best book I've come across for improving my writing skills. Ms. Vaughan-Payne has done something that I haven't found in any other book on writing: she has taught me the writing process in such a way that I could begin putting it into practice after the very first chapter. All I can say is, wow! Thank you Ms. Vaughan-Payne!
Like I said in my earlier review, if you can afford only one book on writing (and $5.55 [now $5.95] is nothing compared to the price of most books on the subject), make sure it's this one. Happy reading (and writing!).
