Living Stream Ministry The Spiritual Man, 3 Volumes

For more than seventy years, The Spiritual Man, Watchman Nee's classic on spiritual growth, has helped believers advance in their pursuit of gaining Christ by showing them the way to let the Lord fully gain them. According to Nee, "The most frustrating experience of believers today is that in seeking for progress in the spiritual path, they do not find the proper way. As a result, they grope in darkness, being at times high or low, lingering around the crossroads year in and year out, and having no one to consult for direction ... For this reason, the book emphasizes clear guidance on the proper path."

Volume 1 addresses the human spirit, the flesh, and the soul. Volume 2 addresses the Holy Spirit, the analysis of the Spirit, walking according to the Spirit, and the analysis of the soul (the emotion). Volume 3 continues the analysis of the soul (the mind and the will) and also addresses the body. 3 volumes.

This book contains doctrinal views of man and his relationship to God that are often contrary to the Scriptures, not to mention completely out of step with orthodox Protestant theology. I advise anyone contemplating the purchase of this book to proceed cautiously. Do some research on the author and his associate, Witness Lee. There is a considerable amount of unbiased material available via the internet.

This volume of books is certainly a life changer. It is second to none in revelation. The content is life-changing and gives us such a revelation of spirit, soul, body that is unsurpassed. I have to read over and over because of the richness that is found in it. It not only exposes the reader about our "self", but helps us understand when we see soulish behaviours in the church that may otherwise look spiritual.

This is by far the most helpful Christian book I have ever read, and re-read, and re-read. In a day when we are bombarded with superficial Christianity, Nee gets us to look "under the hood" and apply biblical truth of our spirit, soul, and body to the struggles of life. It's not designed to give a "warm fuzzy feeling" and it's not an easy read, but the payback is tremendous.

Valuable book for those involved in counseling and discipleship ministries. Excellent treatment of the "trichotomous" viewpoint of man's nature. Provides insight to the interaction between man's spirit and soul. Find out what makes the spiritual man "tick." The book will penetrate deeply into the soul and spirit of the Believer who genuinely wants to be led by the Spirit of God. Not a quick read. Requires reflection, prayer and exposure to the Scriptures. Worth the effort.
