This book, under the title, The Lion Handbook of Church History, was the textbook used in my seminary church history class. It has had other titles through its publication history. It is indeed an outstanding text, fair and balanced due to the many contributors. The sidebars and photo highlights make this very readable and ideal for both novice and advanced student of church history. The one significant distraction of the book is in a weak, somewhat paternalistic treatment of the modern African church. The author also glosses over the radical pietistic movement and its effect on early American church history.
