We were looking for a hymnbook/songbook to use as part of our family devotions. We did not want one full of only contemporary emotional choruses, but we also did not want to sing only the great hymns and neglect some of the newer and also wonderful hymns and choruses. We did not want a hymnbook/songbook full of modern updates, spiritual correctness, and one full of trying to please everyone while changing doctrine and neglecting the Bible truths. This book is great. While a few songs were slightly changed in a word or two, it is much better than many of the newer songbooks. I do wish there were more than two verses of the Star-Spangled Banner, though, as most Americans seem to only know the first verse. I am glad we purchased this book, and hope to use it for many, many years.

This hymnal is excellent for my Sunday School class and should be for others. Most of the hymns are familiar which is important with my SS members being in their late 70's to their early 90's. We're the youngest in the class being just over 60. I don't know if your company sends just something in the mail to churches, but that should be a great source for many orders just for the hymnals. I don't know about the catalog that you sent. I will be bringing this up at our class Sunday and hopefully, they will vote to buy them.

This hymnal is wonderful. It has transformed my devotional time at home. I play the piano and so I appreciate how this book stays open without having to "crack" the binding. The songs are indexed in a number of ways that make them easy to find, whether you have a particular hymn in mind, or whether you're looking for a hymn that fits a particular verse in the Scriptures, or topic, or time of year in the Church calendar. I use this hymnal everyday.

This book had all the great songs! I love the way the sections are divided out too- like Christmas - Worship - Invitational, etc. This book is really a great value!

I found this songbook perfect for the church congregation who likes to sing songs that are in a lower key than the more common original keys most songs are usually found. I also am church organist playing with a church pianist who only plays only in flats, and this book is really great for that. I am so thankful I found this book and will use it very, very often. thank you christianbook.com

I wanted something to ease me back into playing the keyboard after long years of just dabbling. This is a wonderful hymnal, chock full of the old standards and favorites in addition to some newer. I find myself just picking it up, reading the hymns and singing quietly to myself. I really should turn on the keyboard sometime and get going. Recommended.

You can't get every song and hymn in a single book, but this one makes a pretty good effort at it. All of the old favorites and a lot of the new favorites.

Just a note of caution: Although this hymnal has many of the old favorite hymns, some of the wording has been changed. For example, a more modern term is substituted for what would be considered archaic. Also, in many instances the words such as "men" or "man" have been changed to make them gender-neutral. Such slight changes are difficult to detect by just browsing the samples. However, they are important changes that need to be considered before purchasing this product.

My desire was to find a book of familiar hymns that I could play on the flute. This one fits the bill perfectly. Easily read, songs well known in a variety of faiths, excellent price. I cannot comment on the piano music or lyrics as that is not my interest.

We purchased this book for our senior citizen's Bible study and they were extremely happy with the purchase. In fact they skimmed through the hymnal and we spent 30 minutes singing different songs. There were many contemporary Christian songs, and that was a BIG PLUS!
