Random House, Inc Revolution Within: A Fresh Look at Supernatural Living

Rather than the Gospel being about our fulfillment, Pastor Dwight Edwards knows that the Gospel is all about God's glory. He also knows that the Gospel not only changes our legal position before God but also who we actually are. Edwards "thought my job as a pastor was to persuade people to do what they really didn't want to do and act like people they really weren't. But my calling is to tell them what God has done, stir up their holy appetites, provide some basic direction and turn 'em loose." Revolution Within does just that! In this book, you'll discover your God-given design as a Christian. You'll be motivated to godly living, not because you should or want to, but because God has already changed your heart. In recognizing your new purity, new identity, new disposition, and new power, you'll be empowered to enjoy "new intimacy with God, new liberty in daily living, a new community with other believers, and a new ministry through the Spirit."

Revolution Within - A Fresh Look at Supernatural Living by Dwight Edwards is a book I recommend to every born again believer. If I could have only one book to read besides the Bible, I would want it to be Revolution Within. When I read a book I like to underline profound thoughts. I found it difficult not to underline the whole book. It's about our God-given purpose in life, becoming passionate for what God Himself is most passionate about: His glory.

In "Revolution Within," Pastor Dwight Edwards (a descendent of Puritan pastor and author, Jonathan Edwards) details what actually happens when a person places trust in Christ. Martin Luther, the Protestant Reformer, emphasized the justification that happened the moment of saving faith. Edwards emphasizes the regeneration that happened at that same time. In justification, a Christian receives a new "nurture"--freedom from the penalty of sin and forgiveness that welcomes the believer into the loving, fatherly arms of God. In regeneration, the Christian receives a new "nature"--a new heart cleansed by the blood of Christ and empowered to experience growing victory over sin. The message of "Revolution Within" is vital for every Christian. Too many believers are taught that they are forgiven (which is an eternally wonderful truth), but remain ignorant of the equally marvelous truth that they are also changed internally. Edwards calls this "new covenant living" (based upon many Old Testament promises and New Testament passages). "Revolution Within" offers a fresh look at supernatural living. It's a look that is both biblically sound and relationally practical. Reviewer: Dr. Robert W. Kellemen is the author of "Soul Physicians" and "Spiritual Friends."

This is a life changing book. The critical difference for Christians is in how we perceive God. Is He our co-pilot, or is He THE pilot? The book clearly states Mr. Edwards correct position - correct theologically and exigetically! However, I do have one complaint - thereby giving this book a rating of 4.5. On page 184 he says, "This love communicates loudly and clearly, 'You do not have to change in order to maintain my love for you.'" This statement is fundamentally true. We are commanded to love our neighbor as ourself. However, our prayer and desire is that each person we know DOES change into the new creation God wills them to, through the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ! And not just a basic, one time change. But - as Mr. Edwards has so vividly portrayed in this book - become a person who "disappears" into humility and meekness, as our Lord Jesus demonstrated in His life on earth.

This book has changed my life. To change our view of God from the "fixer of our lives" to the reason we exist is the truth missing in our approach to the living God. I just purchased 25 copies to give to my church.

This is a profound book on the spiritual life! There are very few books on the market with the message that this book contains- that both our salvation and sanctification are ultimately God's work! A refreshing change from the endless stream of "just try a little harder" approaches to the Christian life.

This is a great book!! Dwight is a direct descendant of Jonathan Edwards. You can tell in this book that Dwight is also a student of Jonathan's and also a student of John Piper. I would recommend this book.
