Long one of my favorite Christian films, "Peter and Paul," originally a 1982 TV mini-series, is a largely accurate depiction of the events transpiring in the Bible's Book of Acts ("The Acts of the Apostles").
Classic actors Anthony Hopkins and Robert Foxworth, each of whom started their careers on stage, produce stimulating, convincing, and emotive performances as Saul Paulus (Paul) and Simon Peter (Cephas), respectively. Hopkins' performance is reminiscent of many of his previous and succeeding ones: an emotional and intellectual depiction of a character having great conviction. Foxworth is typically potent and resolute in his role, as well. The result is a blend of strong personalities who complement and oppose each other in powerful historical roles.
Supporting roles are credible and complementary, if not spectacularly executed, costuming is adequate, cinematography is very good, the sound track is excellent, and the script is strong.
I give this film high marks for overall historical accuracy, as well. Its "creative license," which is necessary to flesh out a biblical motion picture, is not only scripturally consistent, but also highly believable--and this is relatively rare for such a film.
Overall, I give the film, itself, a rating of 2 1/2 stars out of four--a half-star above its general rating. (Slightly better costuming, same supporting acting, plus greater character development and close-up photography would have raised my rating to 3.) But this does not diminish the impact of this film, as the picture truly enlivens the Book of Acts for the viewer. It renders history more memorable through the powerful audiovisual medium. (And one must be cognizant that this film originally was produced for television--and on a relative shoe-string budget when compared with the likes of the full-scale, high-priced epic "Jesus of Nazareth" [1977].)
Because of the historical accuracy and vividness of "Peter and Paul," I now find myself better-acquainted with one of my favorite books of Scripture, as well as connecting the film with the biblical book, thus visualizing some scenes as I contemplate the precise details of Acts, and actually read the book, itself. Hence, this film has immeasurably aided me in visually realizing the potency of Scripture.

I enjoyed the film. I find it a shame that Hollywood does not produce films with the same quality and effects as they do their other films because this film could have been amazing.

DVD provided additional insights into the study of Acts by showing how life was then; helps "feel" the fear that the early disciples had; provides "between the scripture lines" of possibilities of reactions, etc. Some dialogue was difficult to understand and that was disconcerting.

I enjoyed the movies, and would like other moves like them. I have been looking for a DVD of the story of Jonah and the Whale and the story of Samuel. Also Daniel and the Lions den I would enjoy. I enjoy learning about the bible and reading the bible and following up with the movie is a good learning technique. Thank you for sending my order so quickly.

Although some of movie has speculation it was still nice to watch and think about what it was like personally for Peter and Paul to witness about Jesus and the obstacles they had to have faced along the way.

The lengthy film (over 3 hours) included two major film actors and has excellent scenes depicting the Biblical situations and conflicts/lives of apostles Peter and Paul. It gave me a more in-depth vision of some of the community stresses/oppositions that these apostles faced as they began their journeys to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Of course, there were some 'editorial licenses' taken by the film producers as they tried to capture Paul's conversion on the road to Damascus. Their use of horses (instead of donkeys) may have been unrealistic, but it did not detract from the overall effort to portray the scene of the risen Jesus confronting Saul and his companions.
I will cherish this film as one of my best possessions of gospel resources and share it with my family and friends.

Inspiring! I saw this video with a friend, both of us were amazed at the historical account of the lives of these two Christian giants but we were also inspired by their commitment to their mission. The quality of the video is very good and now I will watch it again in Spanish! with another friend. A great bonus having this inspiring video in two languages.

I was extremely disappointed. I tried to watch this twice and never could get through the whole thing. It is boring and I am disappointed becasue I believe the men God used to build His church were men of passion, zeal, courage, and, yes, even righteous anger. The Word says that before his conversion Paul went around ravaging the followers of Jesus, "went wild" one translation says. And he had as much fire in building the church of Christ. The way the actors portray Paul and Peter and His other followers in this film is that of VERY quiet, dejected, discouraged men. I think nothing could be farther from the truth. Acting is good but to me the film doesn't show the true nature of God's people. Didn't like it!

The book of acts was always difficult for me to appreciate. The movie was so well made that I have a greater understanding of the sacrifice our early fathers in the faith had to go through for the sake of the advancement of the WAY.

It is not an outstanding movie. The actors are not quite up to their parts-perhaps their only background in the relationship they were portraying was from the script-perhaps they did not have a Biblical basis going into the project. Not bad but not a good movie.

I had seen Peter and Paul years ago on tv. I have been looking for this video for a long time. It is the story of two men who help spread the Good News to all parts of the world. I know that I will see this video over and over again. As a matter of fact, I have seen two times all ready. God Bless, ML

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Faithful to the scriptures, it illustrates just how humanly imperfect and flawed many of the first disciples were, and how truly energetic and heroic Paul had to be to carry out the Great Commission at a time when so many of the early Christians remained mired in legalisms, fear, tradition, and inertia. We watch as Peter comes to the anguished realization that Paul is the Johnny-come-lately who is actually living out the responsibility given to all of the apostles by Christ as he struggles to become the Rock that Jesus always knew he would be. The main cast of characters from the book of Acts interact in an easy to understand and entertaining way although it principally focuses on Peter, Paul, Barnabas, and Mark. This would be a great video to watch as part of a study of Acts. It is both highly entertaining and educational.

Great movie! Exciting and follows the bible pretty well. I read other reviews that say they don'y think that Paul was angry like in the movie, but I think he could very well have been especially when he parted from Barnabus and John Mark. He had compassion, you could sense a passion to get out the gospel and to carry on no matter what the circumstances. It's a must have for a serious follower of Jesus.
