All of this series was great. Beverly Lewis is a wonderful
author. She keeps you in suspense and makes her stories
so interesting that you do want to put the book down. I
have read quite a number of her books and I have
thoroughly enjoyed them all. I will continue to buy her books.

All together a great book. I just find it a wee bit unrealistic that Leah didn't tell on Sadie. I mean, she was ten when she made that 'engagement' with Jonas. Her father wouldn't have taken it very seriously. Especially after she told on Sadie, her father would have thought she was just trying to get Leah in trouble.

What I think the real downer in the story was Sadie's baby. It said 'the night air' revived him. Then why did he start breathing in the car after Henry put him in the car? He would have started screaming and crying in the yard, Leah or Aunt Lizzie would have heard, and come outside to get the baby. If he was gone, they would call the police, knowing he took the baby. I think it was also unrealistic how she drew it out, five books. But they're her books I guess. I just wished she would have thought about the realistic measures.

What a "wonderful-gut" series that Beverly Lewis has written. I have enjoyed all 5 books. All of the characters have a story to tell and their lives aren't complete until the end of the series. Thank you to the author and CBD for having these books available.

Positive: Fantastic writing & research. I read romantic novels almost for a living, and this was one of the top choices that I would recommend to friends. Beverly Lewis did a wonderful job of telling how Amish women live, how they try to appease to the Lord and their this-world parents.Negative: The only thing I would change is the ending, just a bit. I know it's hard to end a romance novel, but I've never taken to cliff-hangers. I'm just curious, what happens to Sadie's baby, Derek's army career (ex., does he die, come back, etc.), what happens to Henry and his family, along with Robert's new-found faith? And Sadie's romance life? All in all, GREAT READ! :)

I think Beverly Lewis' books are enjoyable, except the suspense element is too much for my liking. I prefer that there is some resolution to the issues presented in a story at the end of a book. It's no wonder they sell as they do.

POSITIVE: This book is well-written. It held my attention from beginning to end, and I looked forward to reading each chapter. As far as writing talent - Beverly Lewis is good!NEGATIVE: "The Covenant" changed my view of the Amish community, and sadly, it wasn't in a positive way. In "The Covenant" the girls are usually thinking about boys and dating (and I'm not talking just about Sadie). The older ladies get together to "sew", but actually it's to gossip. None of the characters know God personally, or are very interested in God at all. And this is how all the community is presented. If that's how an Amish community is, fine. But if it isn't...oh-oh. There's a sly chance that I'll ever get to know the Amish very well, and I fear shaping my view of whole communities through the eyes of Beverly Lewis. Of course, this is just a fiction book. But this fiction book has affected me so, that I have to "kick myself" when I think of the Amish/Mennonites as Leah or Sadie each time I see them walking on the street or riding their vans downtown.

I loved this book! I have always enjoyed reading about the Amish and Lewis really makes them come alive. The characters seem so real and the plot thickens with every turn of the page. It is very well written and I would really recommend this book to anyone and everyone that I meet!

The entire Abrams Daughters series is phenomenal. The characters are well developed, the story is intriguing, and themes will touch your heart. The entire series spans about 20 years. In this first book, the Amish daughters are relatively young and the two oldest, Leah and Sadie are around courting age. In this book, Sadie learns valuable lessons about deceit, pride, and the consequences of ones actions. Meanwhile, Leah is developing a heart for God. The series is full of shocking twists and captivating story lines. This first book will leave you craving more.

I hate to give a bad review to anyone, but I read about 1/3 of this book and then started skimming just to get to the end. This is the first book in a series, so there was no resolution, but the characters were so poorly developed I didn't really care what happens to them. Unless you like a simple, predictable story that doesn't go into any great detail, I would not recommend this book.

I thought that this was a great read. I've enjoyed all of Beverly Lewis's "Amish" themed books but this was the best. I can't wait to see how the story unfolds in Book 2, "The Betrayal" which I'm reading now.

Out of all of Beverly Lewis' books, I really liked this one. It has a lot of suspense and mystery to it although it was a bit predictable. I liked how she mentioned all the towns surrounding Lancaster and can't help but wonder if gobbler's knob and others are the names of real amish communities. I can't wait for the next book to come out!

I do so enjoy reading about the Plain folk. It's a lifestyle I think I would have loved to live. Beverly Lewis brings the quaintness, the tradition, the faith and the real lives of these people to life in "The Covenant". She makes them come alive to the reader with a writing style that draws you in to each character's heart. I particularly appreciate that she doesn't paint a rose-colored-glass picture of their lives. They have to deal with the same struggles and conflicts that the rest of us (the "English") deal with. Their commitment to the Lord is shown as the cornerstone for their faith, making this fiction a solid tool to witness to unbelievers who enjoy reading.
