Bethany House No More Christian Nice Guy: When Being Nice-Instead of Good-Hurts Men, Women and Children - eBook

If you find yourself constantly trying to please others to gain approval and not rock the boat, you could have the opposite effect and actually begin to hurt those around you. Author Paul Coughlin lays out a helpful map for men to begin to understand who they are so they can become a self confident and assertive person while also fulfilling God's loving, biblical ideal.

Fantastic, powerful insight into the problems presented when Christian men are taught and ultimately live as nice men rather than good men who are able to embrace all that God meant for a man to be. Great book

This book is helping me be the man that God created me to be. I accidentally stumbled upon this book while listening to some focus on the family podcasts and am so thankful I did. I had long been suffering from being a nice guy and this book showed me that there is hope and that we were not meant to live small. I had chocked my relationship with God and others and was living a very unsatisfying and sinful passive life. I am now on a journey to discovering the full rich and beautiful life God has for me, and without this book I do not know if I would have ever made it on this journey. Thank you Paul. I highly recommend that everyone reads this book.

I wrote a very positive review for this book years ago. For me, this book hit a lot of good points about what went wrong with the church's teachings and the twisted perception of Christian masculinity. However, I have tried applying this book to my life. Years later, I can say that I have rejected every change that had resulted from the reading of this book. I believe that the message had been tainted somehow, but I cannot pinpoint it exactly (a message, even if good, cannot edify if the speaker is uncrucified). I agree with most of his points, but this book did not help me spiritually and has actually damaged my witness. That is my objection. This is not the path to the Godly manliness that Christ portrayed.
