Randall House Publications A Promise for Tomorrow
A small Alabama town in the mid-50's. A lazy summer afternoon. No concerns for Fannie Lea besides her dreadful name. No concerns, that is, until she and her brother trespass on Boyd's property. Then, it's a grip around the waist, a knife to her throat and Boyd's breath. Soon the young preacher's daughter discovers secrets regarding other Sugar Hill residents. She learns the mystery behind Boyd's locked upstairs room, and eventually she places herself in danger to save a soul more helpless than herself.

A Promise for Tomorrow is a nostalgic, heartwarming, humorous and at times suspenseful story worthy to be made into a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie. It is refreshing to experience small town Alabama in the 1950s through the eyes of Flea, an imaginative, sweet tomboy with a taste for adventureand she surely finds it. If you liked To Kill a Mockingbird, Father Knows Best, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer or Nancy Drew books, you will find it hard to put this book down.

Sara DuBoses language takes you right to the time and place of the setting of A Promise For Tomorrow. The narration has a slow pace which conforms precisely to 1955 Alabama. This novel is well-written, but not my cup of tea. As an avid suspense/mystery reader, the pace is a bit too slow for me. I prefer when the novel opens in the midst of an action sequence, gripping me immediately. This novel simply lost my attention before the action began.
