I have being lecturing in Church History since I left Seminary in 1997. Earle Cairns' book has been the main text. I used his book while in Seminary 15 years ago, I still use it today for my B.D. classes in Church History today and recommended it still. The expanded edition is much welcomed! My students love the spirit of enthusiasm and humility history is written with. Cairns' work reflects and fosters Christ-likeness in academic work and scholarship. I appreciated very much that Zondervan keeps on publishing it and CBD keeps make it available with reasonable price. Thank you very much!

The contents of this text is relevant in understanding Church History through the ages. It is well written and maintains the adventure and historicity of its contents. The author's use of maps and diagrams including side headings make it eye-catching to follow the events.

Great for lay student, as well as those apreparing for Theological studies. The author allows the reader to develop a quest to look into the events that helped shaped the Christian thought.

An excellent overview of Church History. Very fluid, easy to read and informative. Cairns doesn't bog you down with details but writes in a way that gives you an excellent summary of special events and a good intorduction to key people in the history of God's church.

I find the text to be an outstanding source for the history of church history. I am using it as the primary text for a class I am teaching on church history. It is comprehensive, thorough and easy to read. I love the organizational format of the book. I would highly recommend it!

This is an excellent resource. Worth every dollar. I have been lecturing on church history on Sunday nights for more than a year, and have used this extensively as one primary text.
