This DVD/leader's guide is great for teaching a Sunday school class. The book isn't necessary. Everything you need is in the leader's guide. I encourage you to purchase the book because it provides a fuller understanding of the concepts in the DVD. Adam Hamilton brings us to present day Jerusalem and makes us feel as if we are really there. The trailer implied a little more dramatic presentation than actually occurs but it is a great study.

Using this for a Lenten Sunday School class and a weekday bible study. Everyone has enjoyed Adam Hamilton's approach. We are gaining new insights each week of study. This study can be expanded as time allows.

The book is thought provoking. Makes you really stop to ponder those last 24 hours. Challenges your previous understanding of the passion. The DVD and accompanying study guide are really necessary for a group study. DVD adds very good context to the book.
A must study for the season of Lent.

I was very excited when I purchased this series for Lent, but I was left a little disappointed. The author demonstrated an over dependence on contemporary scholarship, particularly in regards to their view of Mark. In fact, the gospel of Mark predominates his discussion of the events of Holy Week, as if it alone contains all that needs to be said. Needless to say some very key elements, not the least of which being Christ's hearing before Herod, are completely omitted from discussion. Hamilton also overwhelms the video material with "alternative sites" that detract from his aim at authenticity. I bought his series as a teaching tool, but I wound up using them as the inspiration for materials that I myself have developed that provide a fuller perspective. Overall, I liked Hamilton's idea, but was less than impressed with his results.
