B&H Books The River Palace, Water Wheel Series #3

The Civil War has ended when Yankee Captain Dennis Wainwright and Confederate Sergeant Gage Kennon cross paths. Forming an unlikely alliance, their travels become very interesting when they stumble across a band of Gypsies. Gage saves an older Gypsy woman from a terrible accident, earning the respect, but not the friendship, of her granddaughter Nadyha. Later Gage finds himself in the unlikely position of saving an innocent young woman from being arrested and possibly hanged.

These unlikely people seem bound together mysteriously by unaccountable forces; but always Gage Kennon, a humble and devout Christian man, is at the center of the turns and twists their lives take. The road soon leads them to a grand showboat, the Queen of Bohemia, and exciting journeys on the Mississippi River.

Gilbert Morris in his new book, “The River Palace” Book Three in The Water Wheel series published by B&H Publishing Group takes us into the life of Gage Kennon.
From the back cover: “It is God who brought you. It is with God that I found you.”
The storied Civil War has just ended when Yankee Captain Dennis Wainwright and Confederate Sergeant Gage Kennon cross paths. Forming an unlikely alliance, their journey takes an even more unexpected turn as “Billy Yank” and “Johnny Reb” encounter a band of Gypsies.
Saving an older woman in the group from a terrible accident, the quietly heroic Gage earns the respect–but not the friendship, of her beautiful granddaughter Nadyha. But his adventures with Wainwright and these exotic acquaintances have only begun.
Gage, a humble and devout Christian man, seems bound together with his fellow travelers by mysterious forces. The road soon leads them to a grand showboat, the Queen of Bohemia, and thrilling journeys on the Mississippi River.
The River Palace is based on the old story of the Good Samaritan, but it is also a new story of faith, romance, and classic adventure from beloved Christian author Gilbert Morris.
On my to do list is to take a steamboat cruise on the Mississippi. The pacing is slow, there is the sound of the paddlewheel and there is the feeling of romance as you cruise by the cities and states of the South on the Big Muddy. Until that time I’ll have to settle for reading about it and Gilbert Morris has done it again this time not only putting us on a steamboat on the Mississippi River but giving us an adventure before we get there. What more can we ask for? “The River Palace” gives us much, much more. Mr. Morris has given us a reworking of the parable of The Good Samaritan in Gage Kennon. It is fun to see the parallels between the two stories. It is a book of romance as Gage meets Nadyha and they fall in love. It is an adventure novel as both Gage and Denny work to make a new life for themselves and for the others as well. Gilbert Morris is an expert at bringing historical events to life while weaving in the fictional aspects of the story in a seamless flowing pattern. He makes you care for all the people involved and takes you along for the journey. This is also just plain fun and exciting as well.
If, like me, you have read everything ever written by Gilbert Morris then you are going to love this book. If this is your first reading of anything by Gilbert Morris you are going to love this book. “The River Palace” is a very fulfilling read and I am sorry to see this series end.
