B & H Publishing Group The Forgiven Duke, Forgotten Castles Series #2

Tethered by her impulsive promise to marry Lord John Lemon - the path of least resistance - Alexandria Featherstone sets off toward Iceland in search of her parents with a leaden heart. A glimpse of her guardian, the Duke of St. Easton - the path less traveled by - on Dublin's shore still haunts her.

Will he come after her? Will he drag her back to London, quelling her mission to rescue her treasure-seeking parents, or might he decide to throw caution to the wind and choose Foy Pour Devoir: "Faith for Duty," the St. Easton motto. The Featherstone motto Valens et Volens: "Willing and Able," beats in her heart and thrums through her veins. She will find her parents and find their love, no matter the cost.

Another cliffhanger of a read.
The saga continues! As Alexandria follows the trail her missing parents left, with Gabriel on her. Gabe is taken captive by the King's men who are convince that he holds the special information for a weapon of war. What will happen next in this novel of many twists and turns? Will Alexandria escape the clutches of her fiance, John?
Do not pick up this series unless you plan on reading them all! Loads of drama, that really keeps that pages turning. I liked how the book moved at a fast pace, and how the characters were well developed, though there were times that I thought they acted differently than I would have expected.
I really liked how in this second book it focus more on Gabe's spiritual growth and his faith grew so much in this book. I also was so glad that Alex finally realized that in the way she was acting she wasn't fully trusting God as she should, so she really grew too.
I don't really know what to make of how in the book Gabe was able to "see" music as colorful lights. I don't really know much about it or if it could happen or not, but it did strike me as a bit intriguing and strange.
Overall a great follow up to The Guardian Duke, I will note that this is the kind of the series where you kind of have to read them in order and you have to read them all, or I think the experience would be a bit maddening! Though I thought that this book ended much better than the first, which I will honestly say drove me a little crazy ;) A page turner for sure!
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thanks!

Alexandria Featherstone’s parents have spent their lives chasing mysteries, now they have disappeared. Alexandria is determined to find them. In this second part of the story, Alexandria agrees to marry Lord John Lemon since he agreed to go with her and help her on her quest. Just before the ship takes off for Iceland, Alexandria catches a glimpse of her guardian on the shore. Since the King sent her guardian to bring her home, she doesn’t want to connect with him, but they have been exchanging letters and he holds her heart. Now, her guardian, the Duke of St. Easton, and men from Spain and France all want to find her so that they can track her parents or keep her from tracking her parents. Alexandria races across the beautiful vistas of Iceland as she tries to beat the others and find her parents.
I enjoyed this story because it is more than a romance with lots of history as well as interesting descriptions of interesting people and places. More than once, I looked up pictures on the Internet to see if it could possibly be as beautiful as described. Now, I can’t wait to visit Iceland. This is a fun enjoyable read, recommended for readers of romance with mystery and travel.

I was a bit taken back when after waiting several months to get what I thought was the ENDING to the story, saw the front cover of the book which indicated there was a THIRD book coming with the ending!! Almost took the wind out of my sails and I was tempted to not read it but since it was here, I did. I enjoyed it very much and am glad that if I do not purchase the 3rd book, this one's ending was okay.

.
Book two starts off right where book one stopped. Alex is on a ship with her fiancé John and the Duke just misses catching up with her. While Alex heads to Iceland in search of her parents with John the Duke plays detective to figure out where she is heading. Just as he is about to head to Iceland to find her he is detained and sent back to England where he must answer as to why he does not have Alex yet. Just as he sorts things out he is kidnapped and taken to Spain. Finally after that ordeal he heads to Iceland to finally find Alex and bring her home.
While all that is going on Alex is searching Iceland with John for her parents. She finds just enough clues to keep going. While she is searching she also starts to evaluate her feeling for John and wonders if she can actually marry John when her heart is secretly falling for the Duke. The climate of this book comes to a head in Iceland and I will let you read this book for yourself to see how it all turns out!
Book one left us with a cliff hanger and I was excited to read book two to see how things worked out would Alex and the Duke finally meet? This book did not disappoint. I was swept away into this adventure from page one!
What I liked: This book was interesting all the way though. Right from page one the story line grabbed my interest and before I knew it I was turning the last page. I admit to being a little worried that having three books covering the same story line might seem like over kill I was pleasantly surprised to find that was not the case. The story line continues to evolve in book two. In book one we got to know the characters and why Alex went after her parents. In this book we are still searching for them but the added story line has to do with what her parents where searching for. Really a whole new story starts to immerge with in the original and its so well written it flows together smoothly.
What I did not like: I admit the fact that the Duke is still deaf and how it fits(or is going to fit) into the storyline is kind of a mystery to me. Maybe book 3 is going to develop on this a little more.
Over all I really liked this book. I have found that when it comes to series that the middle book can be a stepping stone where you just want to get through it to the final book. Not with this one though. The added storyline about what Alex’s parents are searching for made it really good yet kept the over all suspense of Alex and the Duke finally meeting. Now I am very excited to see where the third book goes and how the storyline is going to come together and finish.

This is the second book in The Forgotten Castles series; sweeping us away from the rolling gray green hills of Ireland, to the beautiful land of Iceland...the land of fire and ice. Our heroine, Alexandria, has reason to believe her parents are alive and follows their trail to Iceland, along with her fiance John Lemon. However, memories of Gabriel, the Duke of Easton, standing at the shoreline as her ship sails away still haunts her, and she questions her hasty decision to marry John. Together her and John encounter many dangers amongst the Black Castles of Iceland, as many other evil people are also after the treasure her parents are searching for..
As Gabriel continues to follow Alex, he is kidnapped, beaten, and imprisoned on a Spanish ship. Will he ever be reunited with the woman he has seen but only once; the beautiful lady who has stolen his heart forever? One nightmarish night with John Lemon turns Alex's life upside down, and she wonders if her future will ever be the same again, for surely the duke would never have her now...and perhaps he never wanted her to start with. As plans are underway to marry John, will the duke's plan work to get off the prison ship and continue his search for Alex? Can the guardian duke save her from treacherous people and from herself as well? Are Alexandria's parents dead or alive? Will the Duke regain his hearing and will Alex learn to trust God's plans for her life?
Jamie Carie just "wows" me with her writing. There is never a dull moment in this series filled with twists and turns. I love the way the characters have evolved from the first book. I see a change in the duke's perspective concerning his affliction, and in Alexandria, who had alot of growing up to do! As always, Jamie's writing is superb---I love her use of imagery, and I could see in my mind's eye so clearly, every country they visited. I know she did extensive research on this series and I applaud her! Nicely done!
I received a copy of this book from Net Galley and was not required to write a positive review.

In this second book of her Forgotten Castles Series once again Jamie Carie takes us back in time to the beautiful green hills of Ireland where the high spirited Lady Alexandria Featherstone is seeking to find her parents that are assumed dead. She was placed under the care of the Duke of St Easton but he has yet to catch up with her…this time he almost had her within arm’s reach until once again she slipped away. This time she will travel to Iceland and encounter more danger than she ever imagined, will the Duke arrive in time to save her and take her back to London where he can keep her safe?
Alexandria is in a hurry to search for her parents, but her friends Montague and Baylor are unable to go with her this time. Montague’s nephew, John Lemon has proposed marriage to Alex. He is very charming and Alex believes he will be a wonderful husband so she accepts. Since they did not have time to plan a wedding or even to find a minister to marry them before their ship sails to Iceland, they board the ship under the guise of being a couple on their honeymoon.
When they arrive in Iceland they are fortunate to find someone who has seen the Featherstones.
After following several clues they find out more of the mystery of this manuscript everyone from the English, to the Spanish want to get their hands on. Will Alexandria figure out where her parents have gone and finally be able to dispel the rumors of their death?
Gabriel Ravenwood, the Duke of St Easton could not believe she had alluded him once again… as he watched her sail away on a ship bound for Iceland. Even as he watched her leaving he could feel the pull between them…this beautiful young woman who had captured his heart with the few letters he had received from her. Would God be merciful and let him finally take her back home so he could keep her safe? Will he be able to make it to Iceland in time to rescue her? Or will the very ones that are chasing her take him in the hope of using him to find Alex? Will he once and for all be able to claim Alexandria as his very own?
I loved this story; there was so much excitement I found myself not wanting to put it down. Jamie paints such a beautiful picture of all the places that the Duke and Alex travel to it feels as if I am there with them. I know she put a lot of time into the research. I also loved the way she portrayed the Duke’s affliction, it was fascinating to say the least. Thank you Jamie for this wonderful story and I cannot wait to read the next one, A Duke’s Promise.
I was given an ARC of this from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed The Guardian Duke and was looking forward to finding out how the story of Alexandria Featherstone and Gabriel the Duke of St. Easton would continue. This series must be read in order.
When book one ended with the Duke getting his first glimpse of Alex sailing away to Iceland I thought for sure he would get on the next boat and catch up to her soon. The story didn’t go anything like I imagined and it was so much more exciting. I don’t want to give anything away, but…the poor Duke! What suffering and pain! Yet he was very humble later and never begged for honor or attention for what he endured.
I really liked how this book, and the whole series for that matter, isn’t just about the female protagonist. The male protagonist has just as an important story line and his own lessons to learn. Gabriel learned the biggest and hardest lessons about submitting and trusting God. All his conversations with God were well written and realistic.
The adventure is still fresh, the drama continues and the danger is even more real than book one. But while book one could be considered YA, this book (and especially book three) had some scenes and decisions that were not PG. I can’t give any particulars without spoiling the story, but a man gets drunk and wakes up naked the next morning with no memory of what happened during the night. There are also a few too many kisses.
(P.S. I read this as an pdf ebook from NetGalley for review purposes. It didn’t seem anywhere close to 320 pages long so don’t let that big number scare you. The story flies by.)
Disclosure: I received this book for free from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

You will recall 'The Guardian Duke' by Romance Novelist Jamie Carie (see review here) and just know you are in for a treat!
Alexandra Featherstone and her guardian Duke appeal to our romantic side and gives us a delightful opportunity to escape from the doldrums of life. By now, you guess it, Jamie Carie has many followers!
Jamie Carie's vivid imagination had led her to create interesting plots full of lively and colourful situations which leaves you just wanting a little more! It matters little that this novel ends with (unanswered) questions to be pursued in the next installment, this time called 'A Duke's Promise'!
All will be revealed in due course!
The Forgiven Duke is a warm lighthearted tale with many endearing characters, locals that will fire your own imagination and a plot with all the right ingredients: love, hope, faith aplenty, intrigue and the unsavoury side of the great powers who ruled the high seas and our world in the Nineteenth Century!
Finally it is a story to enjoy knowing our fair protagonists are in God's hands and His plan will allow you to discover how much a man such as Gabriel will do when in love. As for Alex, you will feel wishing to have her determination in her quest despite the many pitfalls she encounters!
'The Forgiven Duke' is Book 2 of 'A Forgotten Castles' series and the sequel to 'The Guardian Duke'. It will be published this coming July for all Jamie Carie's fans!
Four Stars!
Enjoy!

About the Book: Tethered by her impulsive promise to marry Lord John Lemon - the path of least resistance - Alexandria Featherstone sets off toward Iceland in search of her parents with a leaden heart. A glimpse of her guardian, the Duke of St. Easton - the path less traveled by - on Dublin’s shore still haunts her.

The Featherstone motto Valens et Volens: “Willing and Able,” beats in her heart and thrums through her veins. She will find her parents and find their love, no matter the cost.
The powerful yet wing-clipped Duke of St. Easton has never known the challenge that has become his life since hearing his ward’s name. Alexandria Featherstone will be the life or the death of him. Only time and God’s plan will reveal just how much this man can endure for the prize of love.
My Take: Not being familiar with the story line or the characters prior to the beginning of this book, I found it slow to get into. Eventually it all came together. Alexandria is a feisty young lady, especially for the timeline in which she lived.
I found the story to be a bit unbelievable but a pretty good read. I did find the Duke and Alexandria to be characters that I would like to know a bit more about. So I look forward to the next book in the Forgotten Castle series to perhaps get to see what they are up to next. In the book.....
Mystery - in search of Alexandria's parents who were searching for what (?) mysterious object/s
Adventure - high seas drama, kidnapping, sword fights,
Romance - who will ultimately win the hand of the lovely Alexandria?
Warning: There are allusions to sex, but no actual sex scenes. Places in the story are swash buckling action scenes and some violence and torture scenes. These are minor and I recommend only for junior or senior high students and adults read.
Of Interest: In the book, Alexandria rides an Islandic Horse which is a special breed of horse and that at the time of the story was only to be found in Iceland. I decided to do a little online research and found this picture. The horse is smaller, has a different gait, and has a heavy mane and tale plus a double winter coat.
About the Author: Jamie Carie's Snow Angel was published and won the ForeWord magazine Romance Book of the Year winner, was a National “Best Books 2007” Awards winner, and a 2008 RITA Awards® Best First Book finalist. It was the beginning of her dream career. If she could only say one thing to her readers it would be, “Live the dreams God has destined you for!”

The Forgiven Duke is the 2nd book in the "Forgotten Castles" trilogy written by Jamie Carie. The misadventures of Alexandria Featherstone did not cause me to smile as much as they did in The Guardian Duke, but there was still the excitement and tension that kept me glued to the pages. Alex's determination to search for her parents, no matter what or whom wants to stop her is as strong as ever. Gabriel's pursuit of his recalcitrant ward while battling the Prince Regent, Spaniards, his deafness, and growing love for Alexandria is a great example of perseverance against all odds. The nonstop action and the emotional entanglements make this a good read. It is faith-based with no foul language or explicit scenes, so it is suitable for any age group. Plus, I enjoy Regency-era books and think they are fun to read. This one also ends on a cliff-hanger, so I look forward to the opportunity to read the final book when it comes out.

The Forgiven Duke starts with Alex on a ship with her fiance while the poor Duke is left on the shores watching her sail away. Once again he is on the chase to catch up with her. The question is, will Gabriel catch up to her and what will happen if he does?
This is definitely not a stand alone book, please be forewarned that you won't understand anything unless you read the first book The Guardian Duke. I found myself clearly in angst with this book, feeling emotionally drained from catastrophe to catastrophe that happens to the poor Duke. I was also really quite exasperated at our leading lady. Lessons that I hoped she had learned in the first book were definitely not learned. Personally, for me, I would have liked her to grow a little more. All of this said, I did enjoy the book. It's well written and once again we are left with a little bit of a cliff hanger. There was just enough romance to keep me wondering where Alex and Gabriel's relationship will lead. I'm excited to see what the final installment will take Alex and Gabriel.

Jamie Carie has written a beautiful new series of novels that fall into her Forgotten Castle's series. The Forgiven Duke follows on the heels of it's predecessor The Guardian Duke, and picks up the story of Lady Alexandria Featherstone who is in search of her parents, treasure hunters who went missing. While its been a year, everyone else has now assumed they are dead but Alexandria isn't so sure and wants to go searching in their last known location in Iceland, at a place known as the Black Castles.
Yet just as she is about to disembark on her ocean voyage with Lord John Lemon, a man she believes she may love and has promised to marry once they arrive in Iceland, she doesn't escape unnoticed. Her guardian, the Duke of St. Easton has managed to see that she left on the ship, Archilles, and will stop at nothing to bring her back. He has a secret he is trying to hide and that is his hearing loss. Unfortunately he's about to have his journey cut short when he's taken back to London and Alex remains an ocean voyage away.
Will these two ever find true happiness despite living their lives for others sake or will God have a greater purpose in mind for them if they are willing to be honest and wait for one another?
I received The Forgiven Duke by Jamie Carie compliments of Propeller and B & H Books for my honest review. This is such a charming novel that keeps it leading lady, strong and willing to pursue what she believes is right no matter what anyone thinks and is struggling to decide just what her heart really wants. Will it be Lord John Lemon or the Duke of St. Easton? Will she fall in love to save a man who appears to be broke or will she fall in love to save a man who has fallen in love with her but can't admit it? I rate this novel a 5 out of 5 stars and is a must read if you love a little action with your romance!

This is the second book in the Forgotten Castles trilogy. It is a wonderful follow-up to The Guardian Duke.
The characters continue in their search for themselves and their search for each other. At times, I was literally cheering them on to find each other. The fact that they keep missing each other is frustrating - in a good way. As a reader, I kept reading to make sure they would eventually find each other!
Jamie Carie again does a great job with the characters as they battle within themselves. She paints a beautiful picture of the relationship between them.
There were some moments that didn't seem realistic, but I was wrapped up enough in the story to not really allow that to effect my reading journey.
I'm looking forward to book 3 in this trilogy!
