Customer Reviews for All to Jesus: A Year of Devotions
Review 1 for All to Jesus: A Year of Devotions
Date:December 6, 2013
I have never been disappointed in books by Robert J. Morgan.
One of the trends today is to pick one word and focus on it for the entire year. That is somewhat of the premise of this devotional. In the introduction Mr. Morgan tells us how reading 1 Peter 5:7 began his journey of studying the word all, in all of the scriptures. I know that most skip over introductions but in this case don’t, you will be doubly blessed by what he has to say.
The format is simple. Each day is numbered so you can literally start at any point in the year, be it January 1st or July 27th. There is a suggested scripture passage and then a highlighted verse that contains the word all. Following that there is a devotional that pertains to the subject of the highlighted verse.
Mr. Morgan has a very conversational style of writing that I think most will find enjoyable. It would make a nice reading companion at the beginning of your day or right before you lay your head down. I for one enjoy carrying a small Bible and devotional book in my car with me. Like most wives and mothers there are times that I get stranded waiting for a family member. This book was wonderful to read and ponder during those moments.
All to Jesus is a wonderful devotional that will truly bless anyone who chooses to walk with the Lord through its pages. Each day includes a short Bible reading, with a special verse highlighted from the passage, and it is accompanied by a quick story or illustration or thought on life. I find that the daily devotion is just perfect to get me thinking about a truth from God's word, a truth that can carry me through my day. The devotions are interesting and well-written, and contain a lot of wisdom. Often I hear people complain that it's just too difficult to find time to spend in God's word or time to spend in a devotional. All to Jesus provides an answer to just such thinking, as it will taking maybe a minute or two to read the day's offering. After spending the day thinking about you red, you just may find yourself opening God's word for more!
This devotional would make a wonderful gift for a loved one this Christmas, or perhaps you may just want to pick it up for yourself. I give it a solid recommendation and a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

This daily devotional touches on a small part of ALL God is. Scripture passages plus clear and concise examples whet the appetite, and prompt you to dig a little deeper into His Word to get to know Him better. The downside for me is that it doesn't stick to just one translation, or even two. The author uses lots of different ones and I think for some that may be confusing.
An added bonus included is the music download available from Lifeway Worship; 42 songs and hymns including traditional Christmas and Easter hymns, and patriotic songs. The melodies are synthesized (or at least it sounds that way to me) but I love that the singing is just plain old "normal". Nothing weird or fancy. Reminds me of singing in church long ago.
I received this devotional from B & B Media Group in exchange for my honest opinion of the book. No other compensation has been received.
Robert J. Morgan in his new book “All To Jesus” published by B&H Publishing Group gives us a year of devotions.
From the back cover: Spend 365 Days — All Year — in the “Alls” of Scripture You’d be surprised how often the word “all” appears in the Bible—thousands of times, actually. With each description of God’s all-encompassing promises and blessings, with each loving appeal for our full and total surrender, His reputation grows larger before our eyes.We see again what He can do. We see again who we can be. Now remind yourself of these life-changing truths every single day. From the acclaimed author of Then Sings My Soul comes this choice daily sampling of God’s immeasurable power and His keen attention to detail. Truly, He is all you need. All year long.
Why do we need a new daily devotional? Most of us need help to focus our attention. There are so many things that vie for our attention and we juggle so many that, sometimes, we lose sight of what really is important. So we need this devotional to help calm and center us. We can use this in the morning to help focus us on God and His plans for us rather than our plans for the day. We can use this in the afternoon to help re-energize us when the activities of the day have drained us of our energy. We can use this in the evening when we are weary from the world’s battering and we need rest and peace in God. “All To Jesus” is not a time-consuming read. Each day starts with scripture, followed by the devotional. They are only a page or less in length but they are oh so helpful to properly channel our energies in the right direction. If we use these daily devotionals correctly we will all be the better for it.

Years ago when Morgan was looking in the Bible for encouragement, he was stopped by 1 Peter 5:7. He was to cast all his cares on Him. Morgan realized God specifically said all. Nothing was excluded. God was concerned about every problem, large or small. Realizing he had missed the all inclusive nature of that verse, he wondered if there were others he had overlooked. He realized God's frequent use of the word in the Bible spoke to His all sufficient grace. Morgan selected 365 of the verses containing “all” to create this devotional. Let me give you a few of the daily messages I found particularly meaningful to me. On Psalm 71:8, including this: “Our attitudes are more important than our circumstances.” The devotion on Romans 3:23-24 includes an invitation to salvation. From the day on Acts 15:12: “It doesn't depend on our personalities, gifts, skills, or looks. Any old faucet will convey water so long as it is connected with the source.” On 1 Corinthians 10:31: “All of life is doxology.” Morgan has included some very familiar passages, like Romans 8:28. One day highlights what Proverbs says about financial management. He even has a devotional on God's wrath and Romans 1:18. Morgan includes lots of short stories and personal experiences to illustrate the principles highlighted in each devotional. Something else I like about the book is that the days are numbered, not dated. That means you can begin the devotional at any time with Day 1.
Added features at the end of the book include a link to free hymn downloads and a small group study on some of the verses highlighted in the devotional. The hymns were selected to go along with the devotional as a source for worship. The study aids provide leader notes and conversation questions for key verses in the devotional.
This is a great devotional. Although short, the daily readings are motivating and encouraging.
