Well, what a fun book to read. Great story line as we meet Addy who has been chosen by the principal of her school to represent them in a national contestant that will pick the date for the President's son to prom.

The story is interesting and keeps moving quite nicely. Addy soon finds the challenges of living away from home with the other young ladies who have also been sent to Nashville quite challenging. She gets the opportunity to decide exactly who she will be: the Addy God has called her to be or the Addy she thinks others want her to be. Filled with many character qualities necessary for this important opportunity, she soon finds that the temptations of her own insecurities almost get

    the best of her.

Ending quite surprisingly different than you expect is just what really should have happened.

Don't miss this book-great gift for that special upper middle thru high school that you know.,

"First Date" is a unique story loosely based on Esther. It is AWESOME! It has reality TV and cool stuff like that, but from a Christian girl's point of view.

Typical Addy: "People on reality TV are there for a reason. They want attention. I don't want attention. I want to get good grades and get into an Ivy League School. Period."

Being a quiet girl, Addy Davidson's plans were to finish high school and get into a good Ivy League college. Period. Her plans are shattered when she is chosen to represent her Christian school in Tampa, Florida on a reality TV show. This is the last thing she wants, especially since the "prize" is a date with the president's son. But as the story unfolds, Addy finds out for herself that God has all things under control.

This is the first of three books, the other two being "Starring Me" and "Right Where I Belong."

This review was written for First Date - eBook.
As a loosely based, modern day version of Esther, this novel has some fascinating plot twists. I could relate way too well to the main character--17 and never been kissed, rather read than be social, straight A student, Chapstick is my favorite makeup, etc. If it wasn't for my fabulous husband, I would be the crazy old maid with all the cats (we still have the cats). The struggles Addy goes through as she tries to adjust to being in the spotlight are realistic and honest. She doesn't want to be the center of attention, but God has other plans.

I'd love to see a sequel with Addy and Jonathan older and still in love, leading to them sharing their life together. I really love happy endings, even when they aren't exactly how you expect them to be.

This is an awesome read!! It's loosely based on Esther from the Bible, but set it today's world, with reality tv, paparazzi, the internet and more. Addy is such a relatable character. You can't help but root for her. Fellow reality show contestant Kara is a great source of comedy and strength for Addy during their time on the show and the other characters add so much to the story. I loved the comedic elements to the story as well. Simply put this book made me smile, which as stressed as I am at the moment it's simply perfect. Can not wait for Kara's story which comes put in July-I've already pre-ordered it!!

I love reality shows. In fact, I look forward to watching Survivor, The Amazing Race, and The Apprentice all week. First Date, by Krista McGee, is a story of 100 young girls competing against each other on a fictional reality show called The Book of Love. They are hoping to win a date (to the prom!) with the president's very handsome son, Jonathan. Every girl wants to be there except Addy Davidson. Addy Davidson is chosen to be on The Book of Love by her high school principal who feels she is unique and special- something different than the other girls. We follow Addy as she participates in the competition- although at the beginning she is not exactly thrilled about it. But that is soon to change...

The competition is harsh and Addy's faith is tested. With the support of her friend, Kara, and her uncle Addy becomes a role model and an inspiration. First Date was refreshing and I enjoyed each and every page! I loved learning more about Addy's background that also includes her missionary parents. Her Mom's journal entries were bittersweet. I also enjoyed watching Addy's faith in God grow stronger as she saw God's purpose for her being on the reality show. the parallels to the book of Esther were very apparent. The characters were well written, the story line was believable, and the humor was clever. I can't wait to read the book again- this time with my daughters!
