New Hope Publishers Thin Enough: My Spiritual Journey Through the Living Death of an Eating Disorder

The teen and college years are a crucial time for girls, when positive or negative views about their bodies often become manifest. Written to eating disorder sufferers who are between the ages of 12 and 25, this book provides hope that, through faith and trust in God, they can rise above the living death of eating disorders and become God's daughters, full of life with a promising future. Each chapter includes a prayer for the sufferer, asking God's help.

I was very surprised when I read this book. I was expecting a story where the girl found herself in deep, deep trouble with her eating disorders and when she finally found Jesus, she could find rest. Instead, it seems like when she came to the realization that Christ was all she needed, she became angry at other people and instead of talking to God about it she lashed out at her husband and fellow humans. I felt like she was saying that even with God, you cannot overcome the scars of an eating disorder, but I must say I disagree. If I found myself in a situation where my friend had a eating disorder I would not give them this book to read because I feel that they might become more depressed, seeing as I was greatly saddened and disappointed.

As a recovering anorexic, this book was very helpful. Although it is rudimentary in some aspects (much of the journal questions are for those who have never been through treatment, the message it sends is great.

This is a remarkable book...if you have ever struggled with anorexia, bulimia, or any "disordered eating," then I strongly suggest you pray about purchasing this book. It has helped me quite a lot...and it can help you, too. (includes prayers, journaling space, and questions to ask yourself throughout the pages).
