Reformation Trust Publishing The Expository Genius of John Calvin

In The Expository Genius of John Calvin, Dr. Steven J. Lawson delves into the practices, commitments, and techniques that made John Calvin, the great Reformer of the sixteenth century, such an effective preacher during his long pastorate at Saint Pierre Cathedral in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Lawson identifies thirty-two distinctives of Calvin's preaching, providing comments from Calvin's writings, quotations from Reformation scholars, and examples from Calvin's own sermons to reinforce his points. In the end, Dr. Lawson finds in Calvin a strong model for expository preaching and calls on modern pastors to follow the Reformer's example.

Steve Lawson is the senior pastor of Christ Fellowship Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. Dr. Lawson serves on the board of directors of The Master's College and on the ministerial board for Reformed Theological Seminary. He teaches with Dr. John MacArthur at the Expositor's Institute.

This is an excellent read of John Calvin's background and how he became the great preacher he was. I love expository preaching more than any other, which led me to this book. I highly recommend it!

This was a great read. It's amazing to find out that Calvin was the origin of so many characteristics in use in Bible-believing churches today.

Steve Lawson is an excellent author, you really can't go wrong with anything that he has written. I'd recommend his books to anyone, he really captures the side of John Calvin that is easily overlooked today, the faithful preacher and pastor.

This book will ignite a passion in your heart for the purity of the Word of God to be preached! Lawson does a wonderful job of giving us an inside view of the very controversial John Calvin. This view shows us how Calvin demonstrated faithfulness to his people, his pulpit, and for his God. This book has been featured in Sprouls Table Talk, has been the topic of Expository Thoughts, and countless other web post the reason: because it is a must read. You will love it!Yogi

I am humbled by this pastor who is brave enough to speak the truth of God's Word. So many in the pulpit are ashamed of the Gospel of Christ(Romans 1:16-17). He is not! It would change the man behind the pulpit by reading this and then displaying God's beautiful life and work of Jesus Christ. We encourage the reading of this book and believe it could begin a new reformation in the heart of the church today.
