Barbour Books The Reluctant Cowgirl - eBook

Actress Crytal McCord gave up the closeness of her big family in order to make a name for herself on the New York City stage. But when life in the Big Apple turns sour, she follows a country road back to her parents Arkansas ranch. The last thing she expects to find in cowboy country is a new leading man. Still, she can't help but imagine handsome rancher Jeremy Buchanan in the role. Unfortunately, Jeremy's been burned by Crystal's type before. Or has he? Every time he thinks he knows her, the multi-faceted woman surprises him. Will the reluctant pair allow their hearts to guide them, or will their common stubborn pride keep them miles apart?

I was very pleased with this book. So often this author is more a quick read and on the surface, but in this book she has a lot of depth. She grabs your interest right away and keeps it there throughout the story. You feel as though you are there and wonder if sometimes the characters are making the right decision. I liked the way she wove in the way of God's love and know that it is always there, but you have to forgive yourself. I also like the idea that many times the things we think we want are really what someone else wants for us.

This is a fun, easy to read cowboy romance. It is a fairly quick read, but long enough to enjoy the characters and miss them when it is done. As with any romance, it is fairly predictable, but the situations along the way to the ending are worth the read.

It's a good read, but I still think this author can do better. I'm hoping that her stories will develop more as she continues to write. I loved "Forever Christmas", but I still think the stories and the characters can be expanded more.

City Girl Returns to Her Country RootsCrystal McCord grew up surrounded by seven siblings in Arkansas cattle country, but when tragedy struck on the day she graduated high school, she left home and painful memories behind. Eager to live the dream she and her twin sister had shared, Crystal heads to New York City determined to land a role on Broadway. Seven years into her journey, Crystal catches her boyfriend with another woman and heads home to regroup. What she doesnt count on is meeting her familys new neighbor, a handsome cowboy with troubles of his own and a winning smile.Jeremy Buchanan struggles to make it through each day. When his ex-wife snatched their little girl for whom he has custody and disappeared with her, his world was shaken. His sole purpose for months has been searching for his daughter. He doesnt have time for distractions, but when he meets Crystal, he cant deny his attraction. However, hes not about to lose his heart to a woman whos made it clear that nothing and no one is going to keep her from returning to NYC and her first real shot at landing a Broadway lead.THE RELUCTANT COWGIRL by Christine Lynxwiler is a sweet tale of two hurting people who need to find their way back to the Lord and surrender their problems to Him. Her characters are well developed, and I found myself drawn to Crystal and Jeremy from the start. Lynxwiler pulled me in with her lively dialogue and well-structured plot. The story moves along at a nice pace with the emotional tension building to a satisfying conclusion. It was hard to put the story down, which made for a few late nights. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a heartwarming contemporary inspirational romance.

The Reluctant Cowgirl by Christine Lynxwiler opens with a bang! No, not really. We enter the scene in New York City where Crystal McCord is trying to make a name for herself as an actress. She has terrific friends and a guy who just proposed marriage. Then her life suddenly goes haywire as it tends to do! Crystal finds herself back home in Arkansas, halfheartedly caring for her parents ranch. As she confronts the demons from her past that have kept her gone for so long, she finds love and acceptance and forgiveness in the place she used to call home. This is a beautiful book that warms the heart. It showcases family ties, the love of parents and siblings, pursuing our dreams and learning when to change those dreams. Christines smooth storytelling ability makes this novel so difficult to put down. I found myself reading way past bedtime so I could finish it in less than two days. I also found myself frequently smiling as I was reading. This author and this story certainly touched this readers heart.

Reluctant Cowgirl is a nice homecoming story when Crystal McCord leaves New York City and Broadway when the off Broadway show she is in closes and an emergency meeting is called by her siblings. Help is needed at the home ranch for a little while and it looks like Crystal is the only one that can step up for the time being. Just one problem, she doesn't come home much because of a tragedy seven years ago she can't even sleep in her old room, or upstairs, or in the house... but she'll do anything for her parents. So stay she does, and the neighboring rancher volunteers to help her get her ranching feet back under her so he joins her for the first week or so, all the while dealing with a tragedy all his own. Of course, who expected a little romance to spark between the two of them? Especially when they are both dealing with so much. Then of course Crystal is still trying to deal with landing a new role that will fulfill her dreams of being on Broadway... that is her dream isn't it? Can Crystal figure out what she really wants before she loses everything?I good storyline, strong characters and good resolution. Nothing earthshaking and no big surprises here, but it is a good romance for summer reading, very satisfying.
