New Hope Publishers Cracking the Parenting Code: 6 Clues to Solving the Mystery of Meeting Your Child's Needs

In Cracking the Parent Code, Laura Heinsohn addresses the issue of why some children grow up and choose to abandon the Christian faith of their parents. After interviewing more than 1,000 people about their childhood and parenting experiences, she encourages all parents to understand their own family of origin so that they may better meet the needs of their children. This book identifies six critical needs of children and six corresponding clues to meeting those needs. It also has questionnaires throughout to assist parents with understanding themselves, their child, and their strengths and weaknesses. Paperback.

I dont know of many people more qualified than Lori Heinsohn to write a book on parenting. As the mother of two, and energetic grandmother of eight, Lori has learned much of value through her experiences. After seeing two young adults she had ministered to and befriended as children take very different pathsone being crowned Miss America and another ending up in jailLoris journey of inquiry began. In the years to come, through her Family Bureau of Investigation, she tried to solve the mystery of what causes children raised in loving families to turn out so differently. How do children become physically, emotionally, or spiritually estranged from their loved ones?Lori combines research, her discoveries, and personal illustrations to help parents gain hope and encouragement. Readers will begin to see their children differently, gaining insight into their individual needs. They will learn to look at how they were parented and resolve lingering struggles associated with their own upbringing. CRACKING THE PARENTING CODE will provide parents with the tools they need to connect, or reconnect, with the hearts of their children.Sharon L. "Cracking the parenting Code" by Laura Lee Heinshohn is one of the best parenting books Ive read in a long time. The book is built in an easy to read, investigative layout. Obviously the author did her sleuthing detective work ahead of time, her FBI questions and resolutions are thought provoking. Heinshohn laid out the book in three parts: The Mystery, Solving the MysterySix Clever Clues, and Leaders Guide for leading a 13-Week Small Group course. She gives practical insights for single parent families, how to uncover clues in your childhood, and seasons of parenting. Other tidbits: When children dont feel heard, they dont feel valued; how to teach children to care for others; understand your childhood and how it colors your own parenting skills; and learn the love languages.I especially appreciated the chapter on boundaries, Mama DontI Mean DoFence Me In.This is a great read even if you are a grandparent.

This book is fantastic! My daughter is 27 now, but I wish that I would have thought about some of these things that Lori writes about in this book, while my daughter was growing up. For any caring parent out there, read this book! It is a wonderfully step-by-step book on how to handle you & your child's relationship.

Wow! Having read Laura's book on parenting I was inspired to purposely take time out and evaulate what have I brought into my family, from my past, that is beneficial and what do I need to re-learn in influencing my kids. Sounds like a mouthfull, doesn't it? Not really, once you read how Laura approaches this process, it's quite doable. She shares her personal journey. Laura began her research with the same questions all us Moms have; how can I keep connected with my kids? ARe there specific things I can do to keep my child from "walking away?" She did the research, as a Mom, I don't have time to do! Thank God she found out the answer is YES...we as parents learn specific guidelines to help create an environment for children to grow with value, purpose, trust, and love. Thank you Laura for helping us Moms out!

Are you clueless as to why you and your child don't get along? Do you have relationship problems stemming from experiences in your childhood? Are you a brand new parent striving to be the best parent you can be? If you can answer "yes" to these questions, you must read this book.Heinsohn uses the FBI detective model to help solve the mystery of why so many parents just can't seem to get it right. She approaches the subject from a Christian perspective, and she draws heavily on personal experience to develop the six clues that are necessary to solving the mystery. I meant to read it in a hurry and come back later to really work through it. However, I found that it was so interesting on so many levels, that I found myself really poring over the material. The book has a resources list and a study guide for a 13-week study that would be especially beneficial to young parents. My advice----get the book and "get a clue."

After reading the book, I could see how what I had done in raising my children affected them and it gave me hope to find out I can apply the code to my adult children and my grandchildren. I wish every parent could read it, especially young parents.

The author reveals many "right on" revelations about relationships and parenting. It is obvious that the author has been painfully honest in her evaluation and improvement of her relationships with family generations.
