Simon & Schuster Trade Sales Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Near-Death Experience and Journey into the Afterlife

Ever since man has been aware of his own mortality he has longed for proof that there is more to this life than meets the eye. As Christians, we trust in faith that heaven awaits us when we die, but for the skeptic, belief in life after death seems foolish.

Dr. Eben Alexander was once a skeptic, then his own near-death experience convinced him otherwise. For 25 years Dr. Eben Alexander practiced as a highly trained and successful neurosurgeon. Like many in the field of neuroscience, he believed that near-death experiences, or NDE's, were fantasies created by a dying brain. Then Dr. Alexander was struck by a rare illness and his brain's emotional center was shut down. He lay in a coma for seven days, and just as his doctors considered stopping his treatment, he awoke.

In Proof of Heaven, Dr. Alexander shares his remarkable journey of traveling beyond this life where he met angelic beings and discovered the Life behind all life in the universe. His story of discovery will bring comfort and inspiration to those seeking answers.

I am halfway through this book and I want to tear it up page by page. Usually I may donate books I am through with, but I'd be ashamed to do that with this one. In the trash with this one!! Nothing is scriptural.

Although Eben read his own work very well and this seemed well written, I was incredibly disappointed
I enjoyed his descriptions of skydiving and also was very engaged with his descriptions of family pathos.
BUT, this book doesn't deliver as promised. I believe he believes. But this book is a jumble of Christian half truths and contains such things as: calling God Om, using mantras, channels and psychics, it is really more of a scientific explanation of new age type philosophy. Om or "God" appears to him in a dazzling black core. Noticeable absent: God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit.

I am actually extremely disappointed to find this book on Christianbook.com. It is NOT a Christian book. Although very well written, as others have mentioned, he does not reference Jesus Christ at all. All it did was confuse me about what our life after we die might be like. The first red flag went up when he referred to God as Om. . . . Om, really? Anyway, I have stopped reading this book.

It is a very interesting story and a quick read. However, it fails to address the most important issue - HOW do I get to heaven?
Let's assume I'm an atheist. So I may be convinced that there is a God and there is an afterlife. You NEVER explain how to get there.
You don't talk about Jesus and no scripture is referenced in the entire book. If you want a NDE experience that addresses this, read "90 Minutes in Heaven". Also, why call God "Om"? Was it too difficult to use one more letter in reference to God?
