* In the midst of entertaining worship services, elaborate programming, and political crusades, have we wandered away from what Jesus called us to be? Gulley examines what the Gospels say about the church, explores what focusing on the priorities of Jesus would look like, and explains how we can return to the radical vision of Christ. 240 pages, softcover from HarperOne.

While this book was well written, and caused me to think, I was deeply concerned about the theology. Gulley doubts the virgin birth, the deity of Christ and even questions the sacrament of marriage. While I completely agree that the Church has erred on the side of judgment, and been lacking in love, it is also true that after Jesus forgave the woman engaged in adultery, that He also told her to "go and sin no more". I too, as the book emphasizes, have been disappointed in the Church's response to many social issues, and fully agree that our response needs to change. But Gulley takes it a step further, which to me mocks Christ, and the reason for why He came. Well written, but un-biblical. It saddened me.
