David C. Cook That's When I Talk to God

In That's When I Talk to God, the husband and wife writing team of Dan and Ali Morrow tells the story of a child learning more about prayer. From thanking God for best friends and the flowers in the garden to praying for hurting people and the courage to do things that scare her, she comes to discover over the course of one sunny Saturday that we can talk to God about everything. And at the end of the book, when she asks if God ever talks to us, both she and young readers will learn about all the ways God does in fact speak to us, including one big way - through His Word.

That’s When I Talk to God
By Dan & Ali Morrow
Illustrated by Cory Godbey
Published by David Cook
Absolutely delightful book on the intimate relationship with God through prayer. The Morrow’s present in story form several ways that children can pray to God throughout the day, not just at meals and bedtime. “You can pray about Anything, Anywhere, Anytime”. Praising God for his artistry, thanking Him for friends and family, having a repentant heart, safety, courage and more. Heartfelt wording and actual prayers to help children see the simplicity in the prayers that they can have.
This was a beautifully illustrated book, nice soft colors with purple calming undertones.
Scripture and the Lord’s Prayer are included in the back along with a letter to the reader from Ali’s father Lee Strobel.
A 5 star children’s book that is a great addition on any child’s bookshelf.
Thankful to B & B Media Group for the privilege to review That’s When I talk to God, and receive a free copy.

Wonderful Tool for Teaching Children!

Date:June 5, 2011
That's When I Talk to God by Dan & Ali Morrow has just launched itself to the top of my list of children's books! A little girl and her mom have a bedtime conversation. Mom tells her that she can talk to God any time ... just like she talks to her mom or dad. The next day the girl looks for opportunities to talk to God - when she needs help, when she is thankful, when she is scared, when someone is hurt, when she is wrong.
This book provides a great way to start God-centered conversations with children! The story is very natural and uses ordinary situations to point children to God. Additionally, the illustrations by Cory Godbey are wonderful and imaginative. What a great tool for parents, grandparents, or anyone who loves children!
I received a free copy of this book from The B&B Media Group in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Prayer is such an abstract idea for small children. Sometimes it can be hard for them to understand the conversational (if invisible) conversation that takes place between believers and their God. That’s When I Talk to God is really one of the best works I’ve read for children that both explain and give practical examples of times when it is appropriate and natural to pray.
In this story, a mother shares with her small daughter that prayer doesn’t only take place at bedtimes and mealtimes (when children are most often exposed to spoken prayer), but that prayers are just talking to God, and that you can do that whenever you like! After realizing this, the little girl (while being encouraged by her mother) enters into prayers of thanksgiving, prayers of repentance (phrased as a simple apology – great stuff), prayers for the needs of others who are in danger, and a prayer for courage.
Appealing in its own right as a story, but five-ear-old has asked me MANY times to read this book to her. Though I haven’t been able to get my eight-year-old to sit down and listen to me read it to her directly, I think she’s been listening because I have seen her seizing upon situations similar to those shared in the book to pray aloud. That’s one way I know this book is working, and is one of the better titles available on the subject!
Like most children’s books on prayer (I’m not sure why this is), the story does NOT give examples of praying in the name of Jesus. To me this always seems odd, since the scriptures are quite clear that we come to God THROUGH Jesus, and that we are to pray in His name. That is a fairly simple addiction for parents to make verbally as they read this book with their children.

Sometimes it's tricky to help our kids understand that they can pray anytime about anything. In this beautifully illustrated book, Dan and Ali Morrow walk children through the different times they can pray. We can pray when we want to tell God that we love Him. We can pray when we are thankful. We can talk to God when we need to tell Him sorry. This charming book is a great way to help your children understand God wants to hear from us all the time for any reason.

Review: That's When I Talk to God - Dan and Ali Morrow , Illustrated - Cory Godbey - April 2011
To follow the theme of prayer which as I said in the review below, is something that I am not that confident in doing , I thought that I would review That's When I talk to God by Dan and Ali Morrow. As a child, I was briefly taught how to pray by my mum and dad and touched briefly in Sunday School sessions , but I think that it is an important skill to teach our children - the next generation . That's When I talk to God is a picture book that teaches children that praying can be even for the simple things like thanking God for the marvellous weather we are having or if you have made a new friend, thank god for giving me a new friend (insert name) to play with today. The book follows a little girl through her week's events and each time something happens , she prays to god for thanking him to praying for protection to even apologizing to him for having a bad attitude.
A Fun book that I think every Christian parent should have and that every Sunday School should use as a resource in teaching prayer and the power of prayer.

Me and the kids really enjoyed reading, "That's When I Talk about God"; A cute, finely illustrated story book to introduce children about prayer and talking to God, "That's When I Talk about God", introduces how prayer is a way to communicate with our Heavenly Father and how He is always available to hear our needs, our thoughts and our concerns and there is never such a thing as a bad time.
Geared for both young children and as old as around twelve, parents will find this touching and richly designed book, as a great gateway to help encourage children to start and continue a prayer life that will prayfully continue through out their lives.
What capture my attention was just the rich colors that were used to illustrate the book, the touching discussion of why we pray that is written in a way that helps children not only understand about prayer but open up discussion about prayer, particular for kids who may not yet understand that prayer isn't always just a matter of repeating what is memorize, but its a mean of communication with our Heavenly Father.
A must read, if you are either looking for a way to talk with your kids about prayer or if they ask why do we need to pray, I highly recommend "That's When I Talk About God".

That’s When I Talk to God, by Dan and Ali Morrow, is the most wonderful little book I’ve read to-date that helps you to teach your children or grandchildren to pray about everything, anytime! The amazement of the little girl realizing she can pray to God anytime about anything makes your own heart sparkle with delight!
The book talks about real-life situations in a young child’s life and turns them into times to talk to God as well as learning how He talks to us. The pictures are cute, heart-warming, and delightful–illustrated to engage your child or grandchild in their spiritual walk with God. They correlate so beautifully with each topic at hand.
Some of the things this book teaches children are:
Appreciating and thanking God for the world we live in
Thanking God for friends to play with
Learning spiritual lessons through the different methods God uses to speak to us
Apologizing for wrong attitudes
Praying for others who have been in an accident
Praying when they are afraid and thanking God for helping them
Praying for other children who don’t know Jesus
Confessing their sins of disobedience to parents
Asking God to forgive them
The book ends with some Scriptures about prayer, as well as “a letter from a Grandpa” talking about the joy it is to introduce your own child or grandchild to the world of prayer and God Himself. It can be used regularly to reinforce spiritual truths.
This is a one delightful and informative book that every parent and grandparent should have in their home! It’s easy for children to understand and for parents or grandparents to explain. Absolutely loved it!

Wonderful book to have for your Children, my 4 and 6 year old Grandsons loved it. Opens up the world of talking to God. Showed them that any time is the right time to talk to Jesus ...whether they want to thank him or ask for forgiveness. The illustrations are very nice, and the kids enjoyed looking at it.
