The book of Matthew, by it's very nature, is a dense journey, a kind of Jesus' Greatest Hits. The creators of the film are very clever in fashioning a linear narrative of all the "scenes" in Matthew by interweaving portions of the different sayings of Jesus with Matthew's character dictating portions of the story to scribes and then going back the the portrayal of Jesus. The fact that Matthew packs in so much makes for a "dense" viewing experience that needs to be taken in small doses. For a bible study it means taking a long time to get through the book, but it is well wort it.
