Faithful Friends

The story starts out informing the reader of just how close a friendship Sister Bear and Lizzy have. They were the closet [best friends] out if the click which included to other girls, Anna and Millie. Suzy MacGrizzie was new in town and did not have any friends.

Sister bear, having a kind and easy going heart, decided to strike up a conversation with Suzy which to her inviting her to play with her and her friends. They all hit it off pretty well. As time passed Suzy and Sister Bear began spending more time together alone. Catching butterflies and digging into astronomy became a past time only the two of them shared. Naturally, this created space between Sister and Lizzy. Sister Bear was having so much fun with Suzy that she did not realize she was not availing herself to her old friends, but this did not go unnoticed by Lizzy.

Lizzy on the other hand could not miss a beat if she wanted too. Her best friend had found someone new and she did not like it one bit. Unable to hide her feelings, or perhaps she did not care too, she frowned and grew snobby in their presence. One day she went so far as to not allow them [Sister Bear and Suzy] to join the click as they when to her [Lizzy] house for fun and games.

This greatly disturbed Sister Bear. She was so disenchanted with her friend that she expressed her feeling with her brother and her cousin as soon as she got home. They shared with her that is highly possible Lizzy may be jealous. Sister Bear could not grasp the idea of why her best friend would be jealous of whoever she may or may not play with. Brother Bear said, "She's been your best friend for years. You mean a lot to her. She's just worried that maybe you do not like her as much as you used to."(Berenstain & Berenstain, 2009, p. 20)

Brother Bear went as far as to offer a possible resolution to their dilemma, a meeting of the minds was in order. Sister Bear did not want Lizzy become too dejected or unreasonably sad so she agreed to swing by her [Lizzy] and see if they could all go fishing. Upon arrival to Lizzy's home, her disgruntled friend refused to accompany the group to the pond. Once Anna and Millie agreed to go Lizzy conceded and joined everyone at the pond.

The plot was clear in "Faithful Friends." Sister Bear as well as her circle of friends endured something that is common in life, the power of relationships. Once we develop feelings for people we give them a place in our heart. If circumstances cause a disturbance in that place we end up with hurt feelings. In order to restore balance positive communication is necessary. Sister Bear and Lizzy put this formula to work and found out they were able to reconcile their differences. Now they are back on track with an understand that they will be best friends no matter what.

I bought the Living Lights series of books for my preschool class for Christmas. They loved them and wanted me to read them as soon as they opened them. Very cute stories as always with the Berenstain Bears. Love them :-)

These new Berenstain Bear books are just what I have been waiting for! I have always loved reading my children the old ones but the new ones are even better! I highly recommend these!!

I love this book - sweet story about friendship for little girls.

I bought this book for my 25 year old daughter who has a complete collection of Berenstain Bear books. These are a nice addition to those books teaching good lessons and values.
