Abingdon Press Rally 'Round Green, Green Series #4

Lois and Chris are eager to settle into a calm married life, but that won't happen. While Green continues to recover from a horrendous tornado, the state of Louisiana announces plans to close Green's schools, citing poor academic performance and the area's shrinking population. Lois and Chris know the loss will crush the community and harm students forced to travel more than an hour to classes.

Despite warnings from her coach husband, Lois gets in the middle of the controversy, butting heads with a new teacher, who appears to be a spy for bureaucrats, and pushing the state Legislature with Mayor Eva and Molly, who walks to Baton Rouge in protest. The hotshot consultant sent in to monitor the school is none other than Mayor Eva's long-ago, almost-forgotten ex-husband, mixing up Eva's renewed friendship with Dub McCuller. The district's legal woes bring attorney Terrence to town, much to Dr. Kevin's delight. The highway continues to creep forward, raising more doubts about the future of Green, and Lois learns that to make lasting changes, she will have to refuse to conform but be transformed.

And we are back to the story line that we were introduced to in the first two books, slow-paced, like drifting along a slow moving stream on a warm summers day. I was really hoping the author would keep the momentum going that was established in book #3, but she didn't so with that being said, I thought this was a decent book and I found myself being drawn into the fate of Green and reconnecting with all the characters of Green. My favorite part was Lois and Chris constructing their house all the problems that went along with that. Those parts made me smile.

While Green is far from recovered from the tornado, a new hazard threatens the town--the state of Louisiana wants to close Green's school and bus the kids to a larger town! Not only will this make it less likely that some kids will succeed academically, it will put Chris, the coach, out of his job. Mayor Eva and Lois and friends go into high gear to try to get the state to do something new--change the decision! The efforts of the townspeople to help each other really grab the heart, and the book is a very encouraging read, maybe the best in the series thus far.

This is the 4th book in the Green series and it continues to be a fun, heartwarming series. Be sure to start with the first book in the series before jumping into this book, but once you get to this one be ready to Rally Round Green! Lois continues to use her spunk to bring Green, Louisiana to their feet!

While remodeling Chris' grandmother's home, budget cuts threaten to close the school that Chris teaches & coaches at. Meanwhile Lois and many unhappy residents rally together to help save their small town school. As I frequently see news of schools merging & closing, I was pleased that the author tackled this difficult issue.

Book 4 in the series, Rally Round Green, finds Lois, Chris, and the citizens of Green continuing to rebuild from the rubble the twister left in it's path.
When the state makes plans to build a highway bypass and shut down the town's schools, Lois is afraid the town will lose it's identity altogether. But if the citizens of Green have learned to do one thing over the past few years, it's rally together for the good of the town and each other.
The Green series by Judy Christie follows the story of Lois, owner of the Green News, but is filled with plenty of other well developed characters who each have their own plot-lines. These books keep the reader hoping. They are fast paced but thoroughly entertaining.
I received this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
