i bought this for my sons as i thought it would be lovely to see biblical characters of colour. this bible shows characters with varied shades of skin colour. from a variety of african nations. which is what i hoped to see. the illustrations are not typically childlike. they are colourful, bold and artistic. what i did'nt expect to find was political and social commentary on african american culture woven into the pages of scripture. it gives inspirational sayings from leaders such as barak obama, martin luther king, rosa parks etc. inspirational, they might be. but none of these people are actually in Gods word. surely the bible is full of notable inspirational people of colour that african americans could identify. i was puzzled at why harriet tubman holding a 'gun' leading slaves to freedom was pictured. moses needed no gun he led the isarelites to freedom with the ten commandments and staff representing Gods power. (no comparison) nothing but deceptive pride.
