I love this Language Arts curriculum for my 2nd grade daughter. It has fun activities for her to learn with while giving enough of a challenge so she isn't bored.

This was my first experience with the Lifepac workbooks. When selecting a program, I wanted something comprehesive, as I think that language is not and should not be "divided" - we speak and write using vocabulary, grammar, spelling, writing, even phonics collectively, not separately. So the integration of ALL components of language in one program like Lifepac was exactly what we needed. I felt that enough time (more than enough) was spent on each aspect of language (except writing, perhaps), and the explanations were very good - so much so that I didn't have to open the Teacher's book very often. It is a good amount of teacher-student interaction, so if you're looking for something that they can do more independently, this probably wouldn't be a good choice. But I enjoyed the time we spent together, and even 2nd grade language had some good review for ME (sometimes felt like, "Are You Smarter Than A Second-grader?" show could be made)!
The down side: My son was getting tired of doing language; I'd hear him groan that he'd have to get his book out everyday. I've heard other parents of homeschooled children also say, "No more Lifepacs!". So we may take a break from this and try a different curriculum next school year and see of his "agony" is Lifepac-related, sick-of-school-related or simply Language-related.
I really like the overall format and the flow, except with the introduction of cursive handwriting, which was scattered in books 8, 9 and 10. So several days went by (sometimes longer) before more cursive handwriting letters were introduced, and my son forgot what he had already learned because it wasn't done all at once (but I can live and work with that!).
I still recommend this program; it's much like traditional school in format. Solid content. Good review and explanations.

I have used Lifepac for two children now and will use it for my third. The curriculum is comparable with other Bible based curriculum and provides for my children to work at their own pace. My eldest switched recently from Lifepac to another product which is computer based and the transition was easy. Fits well with multiple grades and allows for the next child to follow right along.

I really think this is a great language arts program! It has a great variety of activties, and is definitely not boring! The lessons are not divided into daily lessons, rather you give a set amount of time to work in it each day. That let's the student work at their own pace. My daughter seems to really enjoy it.

My 2nd grader loves the language arts curriculum. Me, on the other hand, have a few dislikes. Personally, the teacher's guide doesn't give much more info than what is in the book. I use it only for the final spelling test, as you don't test every word from the 3 lists. I don't like that spelling is put last in each section in the lifepacs. It bugs my son, but we start spelling when we start a new section. If you figure the day count that give you in the book, you only spend a day or 2 on each new spelling list, and you don't review the words before the final test of the lifepac. On the positive, I do like the very gradual way they introduce cursive. Cursive starts in the last 3 lifepacs and they only learn the lowercase. No words are made with the cursive letters. My only wish, was that they gave more practice after you learn the letters. Thank goodness for downloadable fonts to make my own. Knowing what to expect, I will be continuing with the 3rd grade set.

I am not to sure about this curriculum yet. I am giving it 3 stars because the books do make it easy for a second grader to read and understand. However I am not sure if I like the way the book is set up. I am using Lifpac for my kindergardner also and the books are in sections to be completed each day. The second grade edition is not. It is a guess if you covered enough material that day. Again we are going to continue to try this and maybe in time I will grow to like the set up. Until then I am still unsure if I would recommend this edition to others.

This is my first year of homeschooling. And I am using the Lifepac 2nd grade set. My daughter loves the colorful pictures and she is really anxious to get started of a morning and then finishes all her subjects by the afternoon. She loves it.
