Standard Publishing Getting Rid of the Gorilla: Confessions on the Struggle to Forgive

Living with an unforgiving heart is like living with a gorilla. The beast follows you everywhere. He squeezes marriages. He stinks up friendships. He growls at family gatherings and beats his chest at church. An unforgiving heart ruins relationships, affecting everyone and everything you touch. Maybe you've tried and failed to forgive someone who's hurt you. Maybe you aren't sure you even want to try.

In these confessions from Brian Jones's own struggle, find hope and strength for finally getting rid of the gorilla in your life.

I knew that unforgiveness hurts me, but I didn't know how to forgive until I read Getting Rid of the Gorilla. This book gave me the practical advice I needed to forgive those who are difficult to forgive. I wanted something more tangible than just "let go and let God" and this book gave showed me what I needed to do.

Having struggled (with minimal success) for over 15 years to deal with the issues of forgiveness of a VERY PAINFUL wrong done to me, I have ready MANY books in the pursuit of helpful perspectives/ideas. This book is BY FAR the best I've ever read!! I could not put this book down and found myself wondering how Brian Jones had gained an inside window into my life in order to precisely pinpoint the issues I personally have been struggling with! I appreciated GREATLY Brian's candor with his own difficulties and what he has discovered to be true. He laces a VERY sobering topic with stories that, though some are REALLY humorous, serve to make a critical point. I have ordered a second copy of this book to give to a counselor friend of mine!

No author has ever been so honet! This is the best book - of many - I have read on this topic and has real help to offer, showing us the power of God and His desire for us to be changed into His image. This is a must read for anyone with root problems of anger, unforgiveness and/or serious hurt. This is a must for ALL pastors and counselors who desire to be truthful and help their wounded.

We all struggle with forgiveness. Failing to forgive can leave us feeling like there is a gorilla in the room following us around wherever we go. Brians book is an excellent read for everyone. Brian uses the funny, raw, real stories of his past to explain his own struggles to forgive and to get rid of the gorilla in his own life. His stories along with clear biblical support provide important insight into why it is important to forgive and how we can move forward in the forgiveness process.Getting Rid of the Gorilla explains the signs and results of an unforgiving heart, and the book ends by offering hope to all of us who have struggled with forgiveness. Once I picked up this book, I couldnt put it down. I highly recommend this book.Thank you, Brian Jones, for your willingness to peel away the surface of your life giving us a clear glimpse into the heart of man who has found hope, joy, and peace, through the pain and sufferings of the past.
